“Thank you, Pashen.”
He leaned forward and gently kissed her lips. When he pulled away, he stayed in her space looking at her with loving eyes. Lord knows if he kept looking at her like that, she was going to do or say something she may regret in the morning. Instead she kissed him again, which caused them both to grin.
They spent the next couple of hours chatting about his career and the options he had going forward. They determined that there were plenty of television stations in the area and any one of them would benefit from hiring Max. Even if Mr. Michaels tried to talk them out of it, he at least had to try. PJ helped him dust off his old resume and even suggested hiring a professional videographer to put a compilation of his on-air segments together. A best of Max Shine video was just what he needed.
“I know a guy. Let me reach out to him. I’ll shoot him a quick email and see how soon he can get to work. Can I use your laptop? My fingers are too fat to type a professional email on my phone.”
She reached over on the table and snagged his laptop, where his email was already pulled up on the screen. PJ was just about to compose an email when a new message popped in his inbox. Her clicking finger was on ready and accidentally opened the incoming email. Before she could close it, she saw the subject line Re: Sunshine in Charlotte. Too curious to ignore it, she skimmed the contents. It definitely got her attention.
Dear Sunshine in Charlotte,
I am happy to hear my advice helped you get that date you wanted so badly. Congratulations. It seems you have some type of swag because the lady allowed you to touch her. However, the second part of your email disturbed me a bit.
There is no legitimate way I can advise you on how to get a woman you like to sleep with you. I like that you want to get to know her, and that the sexual chemistry is off the charts. However, the best advice I can give you is to let it come naturally. Talk to the woman. Find out about her past and why she is so guarded. Only then can you figure out how to knock down those walls and commence to knocking her boots.
Sincerely,
Ida
“You’ve got to be freaking kidding me. Max am I to assume this is about me?”
He quickly sat up and pulled his laptop from her. After reading the email, he hung his head. He looked so defeated that PJ didn’t have the heart to chastise him. It could wait. She didn’t want to break the man. He was already having a god-awful day.
“Yes. Remember when I told you I asked a friend for help with our situation? Well, I was talking about Ask Ida. I don’t know her personally, but I am friends with her on social media.”
“Fine, we can deal with that another time. Right now we need to get you a new job. I’ll kill you later.”
“All I know is I need to apply to stations that will have my back. I need to be somewhere that shows me the respect I deserve. My last station expected me to act like a puppet. They didn’t respect me at that station. I can’t work somewhere where I am expected to act like a clown, or dress-up like a fucking turkey for ratings. I need to be comfortable at my new place.”
“Max, are you serious? They actually asked you to dress up like a turkey. Who does that?”
“Yes, they did and had the audacity to get angry when I didn’t want to comply. I couldn’t believe after all the years I have given them, they just treated me like an intern.”
“Well, it appears to have backfired on them. I watched today’s morning news and that Aisha girl was horrible. She looked like a deer in headlights. I certainly wouldn’t want that chick predicting my weather. Hell, she looked like an intern herself. Maybe they should dress her up in the turkey costume.”
Max laughed, the first time since she had arrived at his apartment. It made her happy to see him coming around. He was normally such an easygoing guy. Once he was able to secure another gig, he would be back to normal. In the meantime, PJ would do what she could to make sure he was alright.
