“She is going to eat him up and spit him out before he knows what hit him.If he wasn’t staring at my wife’s crotch, I’d almost feel sorry for the dumb bastard.”Sam leaned back against the credenza behind Kyle’s deck, crossed his ankles, and tapped the timer on his watch.“Ninety seconds, gentlemen. She’ll have whatever she’s after in less than a minute and a half—starting.”He tapped his watch a second time as Jen used the flogger she was carrying to lift Brody’s chin, so his eyes met her.
“My eyes are up here, Mr.Brody.”Jen’s sultry purr drew a curse from Sam as they watched the other man gulp.“I hear you believe one of our employees has something that belongs to you.Explain.”When Hagen Brody’s gaze dropped to Jen’s breasts, she sighed and once again used the deer-skin flogger to lift his chin.“Maybe you should schedule a play session with a Mistress.A good flogging would do wonders for your concentration.”
“Honey, my focus is exactly where I want it to be.”Jen smiled, not giving any indication she’d found the comment disrespectful.
“Tell me why you believe something belonging to you is at Prairie Winds. With the Wests out of town, I’m in charge.”Jen lifted herself up onto the table next to the one where Brody sat. With an exaggerated movement, she spread her legs just enough to extend one more than the other as she crossed her legs in a move so blatantly sexual it was almost obscene.
“Christ, the woman is racking up punishment points at a record pace—and that’s saying a lot because her top speed is nothing to sneeze at.”Kent and Kyle both chuckled at Sam’s comment because neither doubted him for a second.
“Hagen—it’s okay if I call you Hagen, isn’t it?”Without waiting for him to respond, she leaned forward, giving him a bird’s eye view of her barely covered breasts.“What makes you think we have something that belongs to you?”
“Not you.Well, not you, specifically.Fallon Foster stole a cryptex from me when I broke up with her.She took off for Texas before I realized she’d taken it.I met a woman who told me Fallon works here and that she bragged about the puzzle.”
“You met a woman?Where?”
“At a café up the road.Amazing coincidence, really.”Everything about the man’s body language screamed he was lying, and Kyle knew from Jen’s expression she hadn’t missed the tells.
“What makes you think this woman knows what she is talking about?”Jen’s inquiry should have been a red flag for the man.I probably would have made him think twice if any of his blood was making its way to his brain. From the way he shifted in his seat, it was safe to say Jen crossing her arms, pushing her breast so high they were perilously close to spilling out of her bra, had stolen his ability to think clearly.
“I swear I’d shoot the asshole myself if I didn’t understand what he’s going through. She pulls that shit with me, and I’m toast every damned time.”Kyle laughed at Sam’s comment, understanding too well.Tobi had been known to play on the edge as well—and when she did, it was impossible to resist.Jen McCall always had the confidence to pull off something like this, but Kent and Kyle’s wife, Tobi, was a different story.Knowing he and his brother played a large part in Tobi’s confidence was one of the things in Kyle’s life that he was most proud of.
Jen leaned close to Brody, whispering something so low even the state-of-the-art sound system wasn’t able to pick up the words.Whatever she said made the man nod furiously before he spoke so fast Kyle almost missed the most important piece of information.Nancy Dressler. The woman became a problem soon after joining the club.
“I should have ended her membership as soon as I discovered she’d withheld the fact she knew a club member.”Knowing a club member prior to joining wasn’t a problem—hell, it was usually a benefit. What he’d found problematic and more than a little questionable was the way she’d denied having met Carson Scott despite them hailing from the same small town nestled along the eastern border of Texas.
Before Kyle could comment, his phone pinged with an incoming message.Silas was pretending to work behind the bar, polishing everything in sight and moving around the space with a clipboard. To make certain Jen was safe, he’d insisted on being close, knowing Sam or Sage would likely tip their hand with body language alone. There was no way either of them could watch the vixen they’d married pull this off without growling at Hagen Brody.
Making sure you caught the name of the inside source.Alert Carson..
Kyle let Silas know they were on it.He’d already electronically deactivated the woman’s gate pass, and she’d be served paperwork within the hour letting her know she was no longer a club member. While it was rare for them to take such a hardline on a first offense, endangering not only a new member and employee but several others as well was inexcusable.Kyle delayed the call to Carson until after Jen sent Brody on his way.He didn’t want to miss any of their interaction.Jen was trained and more than capable of disabling the man sitting in front of her, but that didn’t mean Kyle was leaving anything to chance.
“Let me tell you a secret, Mr.Brody.No one here is buying your story.I have it on good authority the puzzle in question has already been opened. The contents were handed over to authorities a couple of hours ago.Your best bet is to hightail it back to New York and cover your ass.Whoever sent you here will probably be less than pleased with your sub-par performance. If I had to guess, I’d put my money on it being the norm for you, but I don’t care enough about your sex life to make inquiries.”
With a flick of her wrist, Jen gave the man’s thigh a lash he would have certainly felt through his designer slacks.Hagen Brody yelped and jumped to his feet, cursing. His foul language didn’t intimidate Jen—in fact, she found it amusing, her hearty laugh drawing a frown from Brody.
“You’re a bitch. Some man needs to teach you a lesson.”Brody snarled the words through clenched teeth, but Jen simply rolled her eyes.
“Maybe so, but it won’t be you.Be gone before I kick your ass just for practice.”As Jen turned to walk away, Hagen Brody made the mistake of moving a fraction of a second too soon.Jen caught the motion in her peripheral vision and sent the man to his knees with a single kick.
“Damn, I bet that hurt like abitch, didn’t it?”Jen’s response made Sam lean his head back and laugh.
“Brody said the one thing guaranteed to push her over the edge.Being called a bitch straight up pisses Jen off.Damn, that was fun to watch.”Sam was still chuckling as he moved toward the door.“I better get down there before she sends him to the hospital. If he’s stupid enough to say it again, she’ll make sure he will never be able to reproduce.”Sam paused, looking as though he was considering whether or not that was really a problem before grasping the door handle.“It would likely be for the greater good, but some things are best left to karma.”
