Lee couldn’t agree more with that. He was furious just listening to it. How did Nick and Elena think this was okay? They had just turned a wedding into a fiasco.

“If Nick didn’t want to marry Daisy, why the hell did he go along with the wedding planning? He could have just ended things first.”

“I guess we won’t really know the reasons until Nick actually talks to us.” Jake gestured towards the open door to Daisy’s apartment. “Right now, we have ten days to get Daisy situated elsewhere. She’s got to find her own place before Nick returns and this turns into a bigger circus. And he will make it hard on her, we’re sure of it.”

Lee wished Nick was there right now. He wanted to get his hands on the bastard for what he did to Daisy. She didn’t deserve it.

His mind started working quickly. He really wanted to help, but he couldn’t think how.

“Is there someone who can take her right now?”

“We live in Vancouver, but Daisy needs somewhere close to get to work. And she can’t really get anything on just her salary.” Jake shook his head. “She’s going to have to move back in with her dad, at this rate, and I know Daisy’s not comfortable with that. Her independence is pretty strong.”

Lee knew that much, although Daisy was looking anything but strong at the moment. His heart went out to her.

“If she wants, she can stay with me for a while.”

“What?”

“I’ve got a one-bed apartment, but I can sleep on the couch until she’s saved up for her own place. And she can have time to get her head sorted.” Lee gestured at his apartment. “I know it’s a bit too close for comfort, given the proximity, but if she needs to get out and a moment to breathe, she can stay with me.”

Jake’s eyes narrowed.

“You would really do that? Why?”

“Why? Because I’m a friend and I want to help. And I’m not going to be a dick to her.” Lee frowned. “You think I would do something to hurt her?”

“I don’t know. This is the first time I’ve met you. But I know Marigold will have your hide if something happens to Daisy, especially in her state.”

“I would never hurt her. I can guarantee that.”

Lee knew he would never be able to hurt Daisy. She was someone to love and protect, not someone to mess around. Jake still looked unconvinced, but he gave a sharp nod.

“I’ll talk to the ladies and see what they say. I don’t think Daisy wants to stay where she is longer than she has to after what Nick has said about her.”

“Whatever she needs, she only has to come and find me. I’ll do what I can.”

Jake grunted, and he headed into the apartment, shutting the door firmly behind him. Lee could only hope that he passed the message on. With something like this, he wanted to help.

Daisy was in need of that right now, and Lee selfishly wanted to be the person she turned to.
