“No, no booty call.”
“What, why not? He hasn’t stopped watching you all afternoon, and you were all coy when you came in with him earlier.” I shrug, not feeling convincing enough to explain my too-close rule to Fleur, but she takes my nonanswer as one anyway. “Oh my god, you like him!”
“I barely know him,” I scoff.
“That’s why you won’t give him a chance. You’re always scared of the ones you actually like.” Is that true? Yes, I’m crazy attracted to him, but surely I can’t like him already. We’ve barely spoken. Also, he’s got the whole Jekyll and Hyde act going. Maybe I need to face that head on?
“Don’t psychoanalyze me,” I joke with a gentle elbow to her ribs, and she grimaces.
“Sorry. But for the record, I say go for it.” Just then, he brings his empty tray up to the counter. I catch Fleur’s eye, and she winks as she goes out the back.
“Thanks,” I say as I take it from him.
“Can I walk you home later?”
“I actually have plans,” I say, and I find myself disappointed that I do.
“Oh, okay. Well, I’ll see you around, Harlow.”
“Look forward to it...”
“Ezra,” he answers before blinding me with another grin. Then he’s leaving, and Fleur is back with me a second later, joining me in watching him go.
“You sure can pick ’em, girl.”
“What’s that mean?”
“It means you seem to be a magnet for sexy-as-fuck men.”
“Shame none of them are available to me. Speaking of, are we still on for dinner? I’ve been looking forward to Thai food all week.”
“Of course. Thanks again for coming. Lee was stuck for who to set him up with.”
“No worries. Even if it’s rubbish, the free food will make up for it.”
