“Maybe he was a test of some kind,” Graves says from beside me.
“A test of control, maybe. I had the strongest urge to remove his teeth.”
He grins at me, making me laugh. “So bloodthirsty.”
“I hate rude people.”
“Really? I had no idea,” he deadpans.
We follow behind Rory as he leads us down some steps and through a tunnel before weaving us through a series of corridors.
“It’s like a maze down here,” Vega curses.
“Harder for people to accidentally find their way in,” Blink states.
“Harder for people to find their way out.”
I look up at Law and realize he’s right, which is likely the whole point.
“Given that we want Law to sweet-talk the guests, not fight in the arena with us, this is gonna be an issue.”
He shakes his head at me, not wanting me to ask any questions while Rory is here. I keep my mouth shut, but it looks like we’ll have to switch to Plan B. That wouldn’t be too bad if we had a Plan B.
A large iron gate stops us from progressing any further. Rory pulls out an ornate key and opens the lock, swinging the gate wide.
“If you wait in here, someone will come fetch you when it’s time for the fight. Please make use of all the facilities.”
“Thanks, Rory.” Law slaps him on the back, making the poor man stumble.
“Uh…you’re welcome.”
Once we are all inside, he closes the gate and locks it, making Vega curse.
“You can leave from the other side. This is just a private exit and is only to be used by staff.”
I nod in understanding as he leaves. I turn to look at Law, who is trying to look somewhat innocent.
“What did you do?”
He pulls his cell from his pocket and watches something on it with a smile before snapping a bunch of screenshots.
“You want to share with the class?” Blink questions, looking down at the screen.
“I slipped a tracker into his pocket that I can follow on my cell. I took screenshots of his path, so I can follow it back out.”
“You shady fuck,” Vega says, sounding impressed.
“Of course, none of that matters if you can’t pick the lock.” Blink grabs the gate and shakes it.
“I can pick the lock. I even brought my lock pick set in case we were locked in somewhere. Call it women’s intuition or some shit.”
“Leave it for now. There is no telling if someone will come down to check on us before the fight, so timing will be everything. Let’s check out the rest of this place,” Law suggests.
Graves leads the way around the bend and comes to an abrupt halt. “Woah. Nice digs.”
Vega whistles as I slide between them and get a look at the place.
“Wow, they really went all out.”
