Owen
As I get my horse going in the direction toward the front of the ranch, my frustration with everything is seething just beneath the surface of my skin. Trent isn’t his usual self either and it makes me wonder if he’s angry with me in some way.
Probably.
I’m willing to bet that the man is fit to be tied over this threesome shit, leaving out the other crap from the ranch. And I can’t blame him without holding myself in contempt. I am in contempt. Of the man kissing man stuff. Of touching another man’s dick and rubbing one out for him. Of not being able to solve the injustices being done on the ranch.
Something about everything isn’t sitting well between the two of us and I don’t need or want him to lay it all on me.
As I approach the front of the ranch, I can tell that Trent is furious by his stance. I watch as he throws his hat on the ground, stomping it to death and ruining it. I pull my horse up and climb down, tying the lead to a post next to Trent’s horse.
“Goddamn it!” he yells as I get closer. “Why in the fuck would any body need to steal my sign? Fuck. What’s the point in even taking it?” He turns in a half circle kicking the dust beneath his feet and swinging fists wildly in the air. I’m trying to hide a chuckle at the idiocracy of his childish behavior.
“I don’t know what to do anymore,” he hangs his head, with his hands on his hips. He turns back to face me as I cross my arms in front of my chest, knees loose, ready for what is coming my way. “Do you have any ideas, Mr. All-calm-and-broody?” he mocks a smile, flickering flames of anger in his eyes, fanning his rage further.
While he might be angry, I’m quite possibly even angrier. Another motherism comes to mind. It’s not the vocal anger the one has to fret about. It’s the quiet anger that needs to worry another because it is just laying there, ready to repay the injustice.
And I’m almost ready to pay.
“Now, wait a minute and hold your damned horses, pal!” I take my arms down, leveling a finger at him. “You’ve been pissy enough for everyone this last week. And most of them don’t fucking deserve it!”
“I can’t believe this shit!” Trent holds his hands to the side momentarily and then walks up to me, stabbing a finger into my chest. “Maybe you and I just aren’t cut out to be ranch owners.” He removes his finger from my chest, leaving a stinging reminder of just how hard his poke is. Both vocally and physically.
While he turns away from me muttering different curses and spewing hatred for all the situations, I watch as he paces the area in front of the large oak sign posts. No sign hangs from top. “What’re you exactly meaning with that statement?” It’s my turn to push my hat back, sneering at him. “What are you wanting to happen by saying that?”
He stops and I swear I could see smoke signals billowing from his ears. “I’m tired of all the shit, the damages and stealing, breaking, fucking you and all of us!” his anger is reaching dangerously close to needing an adjustment. “Hell, for all I know, you’re the one behind all of this!”
“And there it is,” I shout, running up to him and grabbing his shirt. I run over to him and grabbing fistfuls of his shirt, hold him up, trying to shake some sense into him. “I don’t know who you are anymore! I’m angry and upset about all of it just like you are, but you don’t hear me accusing you!”
“Get your fucking hands off of me!” he tries and fails at wrestling my hands from his shirt. “I said, get the fuck off!” Trent shoves me backwards and I’m overcome by my own frustrations.
Running back at him, I raise a fist to strike him, but he’s quicker with his blow to my stomach. Regaining my composure, I shove a fist up and into his lower jaw, hearing the crunching of his teeth together as he falls to the ground, holding his jaw.
“Do yourself a favor and stay down!” I shout as I shake my hand out from the impact hitting his jaw.
I turn to get back to my horse, but as I do, I hear Trent coming for me from behind and I spin to face him. “Don’t ever turn your back on me!” he shouts as the force of his motion knocks us both to the ground. Some ranch hands begin to gather because of the ruckus being made by us.
Trent’s on top of me with his fist high in the air and his other hand gripping my shirt. I’m wrestling to get him off of me and I grab his hand, holding it still in the air, while I kick my feet in the dirt.
“What in the holy hell are you two idiots doing?” Kelly is trying to pull Trent off of me while I shove him up. “One of you better start talking before I place you in custody!” her shirt is messy from the altercation and she tries to straighten it.
“You know what?” she says, wiping dirt from her jeans. “Just get the fuck to your places and stay there until I can figure out what to do with the two of you!”
I look one last time at Trent, my heart forming a grudge against him. He returns an equally aggressive stare, talking through his teeth, “This is far from over, Owen!”
“Knock it off, asshole!” Kelly’s fixing her hair into place as she glares at Trent. “Of course this isn’t fucking over, nitwit. I’m still here!”
I turn to leave, striking my jeans to remove the dust. “It’s over with,” I say to the onlookers, “There isn’t anything else to see. Go on, git!” They start separating themselves as I climb on my horse.
Fuck if Trent didn’t show it, but the word for today is bullshit. No need to spread the word, there’s enough going around.
And more to come.
