Logan
One year later…
What canyou get a man who has everything? This is what Dexter, Evelyn’s obstetrician opened with, when he called to tell me that we are expecting twins.
He has a good laugh about his joke, but all I can think of are all the late nights we spent with Kenneth when he was a newborn.
“Are you sure?” I ask.
“Yes, Logan,” Dexter chuckles.
“Does Evelyn know?”
“Nope.”
“Isn’t it unethical not to tell her?”
“Do I want a fainting, hysterical mom-to-be in my office? It’s bad for business Logan.”
“So, I have to tell her?”
“Take her out somewhere busy so that she can’t kill you.”
“Kill me?”
“You’re the one responsible, aren’t you?”
“How do you know?”
“There is no way of knowing now. But a DNA test can tell you later.”
How am I going to tell Evelyn when she is so happy at work? It’s only been a year since she got back and she’s neck deep in so many projects. I leave my office for hers. Sean’s office is on the way, and I step in to tell him.
“Got a surprise for you Sean.”
Sean looks up from his laptop.
“Can you believe these numbers? This is going to be our best year yet.”
“I haven’t seen the numbers, but I have better news.”
“And what is that?” Evelyn says.
I turn around and there is Evelyn standing at the door.
“Have you seen the numbers, Evelyn?” Sean asks.
“Did they just come in?”
Evelyn walks over to Sean’s desk, and they start having a pow wow. So, I am left to worry about how my news is going to impact the other two in my marriage. Right now, Kenneth is three, and we have my childhood nanny taking care of him.
I’m pretty sure that when Nanny Eileen finds out about two more babies, she is going to quit on me. We can afford any nanny, but I don’t trust anyone but Nanny Eileen. Plus, how will Evelyn work after the baby?
She was so protective of Kenneth when he was first born, that she had Nanny Eileen bring him to the office every day the first six months. Then Kenneth started crawling and that was the end of that.
Can you imagine two screaming infants in her office? She will go crazy. Right now, managing our merged businesses is a full time job.
I have never seen a person so involved and enthusiastic about their work. She’s going to kill us for getting her pregnant. Poor Sean, he won’t see it coming.
