There’s no way that I can fall for Andrew and Dylan in a serious way. I’m done getting hung up on guys- I’m really not in the mood for a heartbreak right now.
Not to brag, but I’m a good-looking woman, and perhaps a little too sexy for my own good. There is no shortage of guys in my life. Once they see a picture of me or meet me in person, they are usually blown away.
Men love the way I look, and they fantasize about being with a supermodel, but in the end it’s just me, Hazel- the plain old simple girl. To say the obvious, they never call me back after they discover this.
The phone rings and I jump to answer it.
“Hi Hazel, how’s it going?”
It’s Dylan! I can’t believe he is calling me.
“Hi Dylan. I’m just hanging out in my apartment. How ‘bout you?”
Dylan laughs into the phone, and I start to feel a sizzle working its way through my body.
“I’m just hanging out too.”
There’s a pause. I don’t know what to say. Dylan saves me from myself and starts up the conversation again.
“Well gorgeous, I’m calling to see if you would want to go to dinner with me some time?”
It all flashes before my eyes. The happy times we will have together. The laughter and great sex. But then that turns into the fights and the tears. The breakup and the devastation.
“I’m not sure Dylan.”
“What aren’t you sure of?”
I want to say that I’m scared of so many things. But I don’t say that. Instead, I tell him I’ve got to check my schedule and can I let him know about my availability later. He agrees and we hang up the phone.
My pizza finally arrives, and I sit at my table and eat without thinking. Piece after piece, I eat. I don’t care about the calories because my mind is tied up thinking about Dylan.
An hour passes. Is it okay to call him back now? I think for a few minutes and then decide it’s okay.
I pick up the phone, and dial Dylan’s number. He answers on the first ring.
“Hello gorgeous, what did you decide?”
“I’ve got tomorrow free.”
“Then tomorrow it is.”
We talk a little bit about the upcoming flights and then hang up. I have so much excitement coursing through my veins right now. I can’t even believe that I am going out with Dylan… on an actual date.
The fact that he’s so obviously interested in me makes me about the most excited woman on the planet. Waiting for tomorrow is going to be so hard.
