Darian
Iwake up feeling on top of the world, and it’s been a long time since I felt anything close to this. My night was amazing, and I slept like a baby. And I have a certain someone to thank for that.
Becky.
I honestly feel like I’m walking on clouds as I get ready for work. I’m not even stressing about the stupid board meeting I have to attend today. All I’m thinking about is my experience with Becky and how much I want it to happen again.
So I think about that all the way through work. And through my morning coffee…and halfway through my board meeting.
“Darian? Are you coming any closer to making a decision yet?” Brandon says.
Brandon has been with the company almost as long as I have.
“Sorry, what? A decision about what?”
“About Max Kleeberger, and whether you are going to give him a see on your board or not. The offer is not going to be here forever, so it would really be best if you made a decision soon.”
“Yes, I understand. But Mr. Kleeberger only made the offer a couple of nights ago. Becoming a board member overnight is just not going to happen. I will have to think more on this and get back to you.”
“We understand. Do you have an inkling of what you might do?”
“I’m leaning towards yes. He seems knowledgeable of the field, and I admire his
determination to get the job. I just have to check a few more things before I officially offer it to him.”
“Mr. Strong, let me remind you that if you allow Mr. Kleeberger to become a board member, he will have access to most of the company funds. We don’t even know this guy,” Alex, another board member, points out.
“I am aware of what he would have access to. But I think he would be a good asset; he appears to be very good at what he does. I will let you guys know my decision soon. I’m calling this meeting. Good day everyone.”
Jeez. I could not get out of that meeting fast enough.
To be honest, the only thing really stopping me from bringing Max on right away is Becky. There seemed to be something weird between them, and I’m still not sure what that is. But before I hire him, I need to find out. Something tells me it may be important.
I call my driver, Mateo, and leave work early- I’m determined to get some answers. so that I can get this shit over with. As soon as he arrives, I tell him to head to Greenwich Village, where Becky lives.
I cross my fingers that she’s home- I don’t want to lose my courage to knock on her door. But the closer we get, the more I psych myself out. What is she going to think about me if I show up at her door the day after we hooked up for the first time? I don’t want to come off as desperate to a woman like her.
Ah fuck it, who cares.
Mateo drops me off and I head straight for her apartment and knock, giving myself no time to overthink any more than I already have.
“Coming!” I hear her magical voice call from inside.
She answers the door in black yoga pants and a matching sports bra. No makeup on, platinum hair in a messy bun- and even prettier than I’ve seen her yet.
“Oh! Darian, hi! Come in, sorry- I was just about to head to the gym. What’s going on?”
“Hi Becky. I’m sorry to come unannounced, but I had something I needed to ask you.”
“It’s no problem at all Darian- always happy to see you. Let’s talk on the couch.”
I try not to let her comment get to my head and throw my focus off as I follow her to the couch.
“Okay, so ask away!” She says as she plops down next to me.
“So, Max Kleeberger.”
“Ahh, Sleezeberger.”
