We stand there with our mutual pain for a moment.
‘I’m going to come back tomorrow afternoon and clean the floors,’ I say. ‘But there’s a catch.’
He raises an eyebrow.
‘The bathroom needs to be clean, and you need to be sober.’
His eyes move between mine. ‘I can see why Hunter fell for you the way he did. You’re a good egg, with a good heart.’
The hollowness in my chest grows a little bigger. ‘Clean bathroom and sober.’
He nods slowly. ‘Clean bathroom and sober.’
