"You don't sound very happy about that considering the result of their interference." The look she gave him wasn't a pout, but clear affront.

He gave into the urge he'd had since sitting down beside her and tugged Blythe into his lap, his hand sliding under the fabric of her robe to touch the silken skin beneath. "I am very happy with the results of their interference."

"But you don't like knowing they interfered."

"Exactly." Pleased with how well she knew him, Tor kissed Blythe.

After several pleasurable moments, she pulled back with a sigh.

"What is the matter?" he asked her.

"I have to talk to Janice."

"You are worried she will be hurt when you tell her the truth."

"Of course she will be."

Tor agreed, but he didn't say so. Blythe didn't need him fueling her already strong sense of guilt. "She will forgive you."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because I know without a doubt that if the situations were reversed, you would forgive her."

When Blythe did not reply, he prompted, "Wouldn't you?"

"You know I would."

"So, why so worried she will not do the same?" he asked.

Blythe shrugged. "I should have trusted her not to judge me."

"For having sex with her brother-in-law without making any sort of commitment to him?" he asked, wondering what exactly Blythe thought Janne would have judged.

Blythe rolled her eyes. "You know that's not true."

"I do, but I wondered when you were going to admit it."

"It never was as simple as friends with benefits was it?" Blythe asked ruefully.

"No." If she had slept with another man, much less dated one during their supposedly no commitment phase, or possibly worse, during their temporary breakup, he would have been gutted.

Not that Tor was admitting to any such weakness.

"I would have hated it if you found someone else," she said with more emotional honesty than he was willing to express.

But then, he wasn't the one who had broken things off a year ago.

"I did not. Neither did you. That should tell you something."

The sad expression she gave him made no sense.

"What?" he asked with less patience than he probably should have shown.

"We're not exactly soul mates."

"How would you describe it?" he asked, not entirely happy with her dismissal of a concept he would have dismissed as a fairytale had anyone else brought it up.

"We're very compatible in bed."
