Reginald hummed as they shared a loaded look. “My brain wanted me to focus on all the young women’s names, not just all the Eldons. And I know Leary won’t stop until he gets that rosary back because it belonged to his father.”
“Speed thought he could con Frank Leary into believing it if Lavender shot him but it won’t be enough,” Paul predicted. “Not if someone killed his father.”
“And he won’t be happy with the rosary. Leary will want Speed to lose everything, like he did.”
“Goddamn it!” Paul whispered. “I feel bad for Speed. He thought he’d found a way to get justice for his parents and spare Leary but there’s no way this doesn’t blow up on him.”
Reginald hummed in agreement. “It was a terrible gamble but Speed had to try because he loves Leary. I suppose he thought he could sell it because he could sell anything but the odds were always slim. The bullet may have helped but Leary won’t swallow it. He won’t believe the FBI could pull that off. No offense,” he added, earning a disgruntled humph from Paul.
“Lavender’s going to be furious.”
“He’s probably screaming at Speed as we speak,” Reginald said with a sincerely smug grin. “I did it. I figured it out and the chips will fall where they may as far as I’m concerned.”
“Really?” Paul asked, sounding skeptical. He gathered Reginald in his arms as he fell onto his side.
“Really. Speed can worry about this now and Lavender has Toly and Denver to keep an eye out for Leary.”
“I can’t tell you how glad I am to hear that.” Paul kissed him and rolled them so Reginald was on top. “I didn’t want to sleep for more than a few hours at a time so I could keep an eye on you but I’m just about out of reports to write and shit to read.”
“No more work for either of us. From here on out, we’re having lots of sex and doing whatever it is that you want to do.”
“That must have been a hell of a trip,” Paul said, frowning as he adjusted Reginald’s legs so he was straddling him. “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine but I know I take a toll on you and I’m sorry,” Reginald said.
“Oh.” Paul’s brows fell as he considered. “I could have married someone who wasn’t an addict and a criminal but I did because I understand and I want to be here to keep you safe. I couldn’t be this happy with anyone else.”
“When was the last time we had sex?” Reginald asked, locking his leg around Paul’s hip. He laughed softly as he reached for the lube on the bedside table.
“I ate your ass while you were drooling into your pillow a few hours ago.”
“You really are amazing. Can you do me a favor and grow a mustache?”
“No. And I told you, it wasn’t that bad. I got caught up on all my work, we had lots of sex, and I got a video of you eating toast and beans while you were tripping. I’ll show the guys when we get home. It would have been great if you were actually resting,” Paul said and Reginald made a dreamy, contented sound as he got comfortable beneath him.
“Don’t worry. This time, I’ll get it right.”
