“Thanks. I am one lucky girl to have you in my life.”
“No, sweetheart, I am the lucky one.” He pulled her into a tight hug. A moment later, a knock sounded at the door.
“You expecting company? Maybe a male stripper?” Austin wagged his eyebrows, and she chuckled.
When she opened the door and saw who stood on the other side, everything faded away. Dietrich and Stellan stood side-by-side. They wore suits, power-fucking suits that had the air leaving her in a rush.
God, the images in her head didn’t compare to having them stand in front of her in the flesh. She had no idea how long she stood there staring at them, but Austin clearing his throat behind her had her blinking rapidly to clear her vision.
Stellan and Dietrich’s eyes were hard as they looked over her shoulder at Austin.
“W-what are you doing here?” The tensing of their jaws and the fact they still weren’t looking at her had her glancing over her shoulder at her best friend.
Austin stared at them with wide eyes, but what caught her attention was the lipstick kiss on his cheek. Blythe turned and wiped it off. Her face heated further with embarrassment. She could only imagine what they thought.
After smoothing her hands over her hair that Austin rumpled earlier, she turned back to the suits who now stared at her with identical stoic expressions.
“We aren’t interrupting anything, are we?” Stellan asked with a bit of a bite in his words.
“You know what, I was just heading out. I’ll call you later, Blythe.”
Austin slipped past her and two very angry looking men and left her alone. That bastard. Should she let them in? Honestly, what could they possibly have to say to her? She no longer worked for Dietrich, so their appearance at her doorstep confused her.
Stepping aside as they made their way inside, Blythe was very aware of their presence. Not only did their large bodies make her apartment seem far too small for her comfort, their aura screamed dangerous territory.
After shutting the door and leaning against it, she waited to find out what they wanted. Seeing them wasn’t good for her mind or her heart.
“You look well, querida.” Stellan’s voice was smooth like melted chocolate and had a shiver working through her.
It hadn’t been much longer since she had seen him, not much, but it felt like ages now that he stood in her living room.
“Thank you. You look good, too.” She took in the grey pinstripe suit he wore. The white shirt and ice blue tie set off the whole incredibly sexy look he had going on.
Turning her attention to Dietrich, she took note of his attire as well. There was just something incredibly sexy about a man in business wear. Dietrich’s suit was black with a crisp white shirt underneath and a blood red tie.
She licked her lips and saw Dietrich’s eyes dip down to watch the act. Her heart slammed hard in her chest as she waited anxiously.
“I’m a bit confused as to why you’re here.” Her hands were behind her back, and she twisted her fingers together. Sweat pooled between her breasts. Damn, she hadn’t been this nervous since high school.
“Who was that man?” Dietrich looked angry. Very angry. When she didn’t answer right away, he took a step forward. “Is he your lover, baby?” Blythe blinked rapidly. It took her a moment to let his words sink in. Austin? As her lover?
The thought almost had her laughing out loud if not for the twin fierce expressions on their faces.
“No. That is my friend, Austin.” Neither said anything, so she continued. “My very gay friend.” For a solid minute, they still watched her, but the tension started to slowly leave them.
The sound of the clock ticking away in the background was the only thing she could hear as they stayed silent.
“That’s real good, querida,” Stellan said, but his expression was still clouded.
“You ran.”
All it took was Dietrich and Stellan to say those endearments, and she was melted butter. She whispered, “What?”
Dietrich repeated himself. “You. Ran.”
“I didn’t run.”
He took a step forward, his eyes dark, his voice low.
“You did. I listened to Stellan and gave you a week to come back to us. You didn’t, so here we are.” He was so close to her that his cologne filled her nose.
The door was hard and cold behind her as she pressed impossibly close to it. He placed both hands on the wood by her head and leaned in. Blythe closed her eyes briefly and let the heat that came off him surround her.
She was aware of Stellan’s closeness, of his breathing changing rapidly as he watched. Was he turned on seeing what transpired? She certainly was.
“You didn’t want me.” She opened her eyes in time to see a confused look cross Dietrich’s face right before he schooled his features.
