“No. I’m an Alpha. I can survive just fine in the woods. You worry about yourself, baby. I promise you’ll be the first person I come see when I get out.”
“I never agreed to be a prison wife.”
“As much as I like hearing you call yourself my wife, this isn’t a prison.”
“Feels like it.”
“Stop sulking, Sunshine. I’ll be okay, I promise.”
“Maybe I can talk to Father Gallagher and get your sentence reduced? Time off for good behavior?”
“There’s nothing good about my behavior. Trust me.” Kingston was such a damn smartass. “I’ll see you when I’m out. I promise I’ll make it worth the wait.”
“We should head back. It’s getting dark.” As he spoke, Alek’s warm palm skated over the small of my back. Mybareback. God, I’d been standing here naked all this time.
“Fine. I left all my clothes back at the clearing. It’ll be night before we get to the campus at this rate. Perfect time for confronting a priest.”
Alek held out a familiar bundle of clothes. “I picked these up for you.”
“You’re just telling me this now?”
He grinned. “I was enjoying the view. But also, you were in the middle of something. It seemed rude to interrupt.”
“Uh huh. Likely story, Viking.” His smile stretched, forcing me to begrudgingly smile in return. He was too pretty to stay mad at. And he did sort of have a point. Sighing, I said, “Well, you might as well hang onto them. I should probably shift for the run back.”
“Or we could take the direct path back to the school.”
“The direct...” I trailed off, my gaze following in the direction he was pointing. “Sonofabitch.”
“In your defense, you had no idea he’d be here. You followed your nose.”
I snagged my clothes and dressed quickly. “I can’t believe we were so close. What kind of wolf am I? Jesus.”
“You’re a really pretty one.”
“Stop flirting with my mate right in front of me!” Kingston called. “I can hear you.”
“She’s ours. Get over it.” Alek took my hand. “Come on, Sunny. I’ll walk you home.”
