CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Dalton

––––––––

I crush the sides of the pillow against my head, trying to drown out the sounds of Kalen in the throes of passion.

I knew he wanted Luna, but I thought he’d be a little more discreet about actually getting her.

Rolling onto my side, I shut my eyes tightly, curl up into a ball, and pray for him to finish soon.

As far as I know, this is his first time with a woman, and the word is that men don’t usually last too long on their first time.

“Jesus,” I grumble as I sit up and glance at my door. Another loud fucking moan, more sounds of the headboard smacking against the wall, and I’m close to stopping them just so I can get some sleep tonight.

Giving up on the pillow, I get off my bed and walk over to the closet, reaching up along the ledge until my hands touch the small iPod that I bought off eBay. It’s old as sin, but still works pretty great, and every now and then when I have enough money, I pop some more songs onto it.

I hide it from Kalen because I know he’ll be angry that I have something he doesn’t, although I’m pretty sure that him absolutely destroying Luna makes us even.

With a frustrated sigh, I reach up again and retrieve my headphones, turn the device over, and plug them in so I can blast some music and drown him out.

But as soon as I lie down on my bed again, I sit up with an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Why would Luna be quiet if it sounds like he’s trying to fuck her through the wall?

Getting up again, I pull out my headphones and toss the iPod onto my bed, and glance at my bedroom door.

The chances that Kalen and Luna are having such an animalistic encounter and I can only hear one of them isn’t sitting right with me.

Licking my lips nervously, I head toward my bedroom door and pull it open, poking my head out into the hallway.

The sound is coming from the back of the house which would make sense if it’s Luna because that’s where her room is.

I cast a glance toward Kalen’s door and then back toward the darkness at the other end of the hallway.

His door is open but until I find the strength to start moving up the hallway to inspect, I won’t know if he’s in Luna’s room.

And the thumping and damn near screeching isn’t coming from his room.

Be brave.

With a nod to my inner self, I pull my door open all the way and start to walk quietly toward Luna’s bedroom door.

And even though I can hear the sounds coming from the room across from hers, I have to know if she’s still in her room, so I gently put a hand on the doorknob and push it open.

To my surprise, she’s sitting on the edge of her bed with her face in her hands, and shaking her head.

“Think he’s going to lose any of that stamina soon?” she asks, her tone muffled by her hands.

“Oh fuck.”

The air escapes me in a rush as I turn and glance at Mom’s door, imagining the absolute worst.

From behind me, Luna’s bed creaks as she gets to her feet and shuffles over to where I’m standing.

“That can’t be good for him,” she muses.

"I would think not,” I snap, giving her an annoyed stare.
