Onyx nodded solemnly as the crowd clapped politely.

“But most of all,” Martin said, a childlike grin growing on his face. “I am here today to commit to being the man whom my parents had always wanted me to be. To be faithful, loyal, kind, and a mate to someone who I know will do the same for me.”

Azura and Onyx gave each other side-eye. Azura frowned, then mouthed to her husband silently.

“Did you know about this?”

Onyx shrugged and shook his head, a smirk growing on one side of his face.

Martin had left the podium and walked over to his girlfriend. He got down on one knee, and from where they were sitting, they heard bits and pieces of his proposal. Kyra leapt into his arms, almost knocking Martin over, which elicited another roar of applause from the spectators.

“Wow,” Onyx said, clapping.

“What’s wow?” Azura said.

“I mean …” Onyx stopped clapping and the replaced his hand on his wife’s thigh.

She loved it when he did that. It made her feel perpetually wanted, even on days when she didn’t like herself.

“Should I have done it that way?” Onyx said, eyes shining playfully.

Azura wrinkled her nose and then pulled his head down, so her lips met his ear. She licked it lightly, then murmured as low as she possibly could.

“You did everything just right, my honey.”

Once Martin had finished celebrating with his girlfriend, he sauntered over to Azura and Onyx’s table. He was looking more and more like an adult every time she saw him.

He pulled up a chair and sat next to his sister, eyes glimmering under the soft restaurant lighting.

“I didn’t even know you knew how to shop for rings,” Azura said, elbowing him.

“I have a lot of help here,” Martin said, looking at Onyx.

Azura narrowed her eyes at her husband. He raised his hands in the air, looking adorably innocent.

“I thought you said you didn’t know about the ring?”

“I didn’t!” Onyx said.

Azura lifted a glass of wine to her lips, looking at her brother, then looking at Onyx. They both had that look like it was Christmas morning, and they were bursting to keep the gift a secret.

“What is going on?” she demanded.

Martin waved a finger in front of his sister’s face.

“You’re going to have to wait, miss!”

Azura scoffed, then tried to tickle her brother under his armpit. He stood just in time and fled with a childlike giggle.

She whipped her head to look at Onyx, who was holding his glass of wine up to his lips.

“Babe, what the hell?” she asked.

He tilted his head as he swirled the beverage in front of his nostrils. Azura’s heart was hammering in her chest, but in a way that was electrifying and intriguing.

“Like he said,” Onyx whispered. “You’re just going to have to wait till morning, love.”

Azura knew she wasn’t the most patient person on the planet. Onyx loved teasing her about this, especially when it came to making love. To her, there was no time like the present for almost anything.
