“Not now!” she snapped. “Azura has only just been told about you. She is very nervous about this party and about you.”
“About me?” he echoed, feeling like a parrot.
“Yes, Onyx,” Gerri giggled, her seriousness wearing off into indulgence. “Don’t spring yourself on her straight away. Just watch her for a while. The right time will come.”
“Fine,” he said softly. He could watch her for a while. He had no problem doing that.
He was so distracted that he almost followed Azura across the lawn until Gerri stepped in his way again, giving him a hard stare. He nodded sheepishly and turned to walk in the opposite direction.
He couldn’t go far before he turned back around to watch Azura moving through the crowd. She was nervous, he could tell. He also thought the best way to deal with those nerves was to rush in there, gather her into his arms, and worship every inch of her perfect skin.
He could almost feel the curves under his hands and hear her voice as she gasped his name. He started to feel almost frantic and quickly turned away. Thankfully, there was a waiter right behind him with a tray of food.
He reached for the entire tray, then quickly understood by the waiter’s expression that said that was not appropriate. He watched the others and took a small plate from a nearby table, then filled it with different delicacies from the larger platters. He felt calmer.
Alpha males needed territory, food, and access to their mate to be completely satisfied and calm. Onyx knew the food would keep him distracted.
But not for long.
