I lift my head in confusion as I look at him. “Why would I think less of you?”
His cheeks flush. “Because of the sex tape thing.” He uses his other arm to cross it over his eyes, and I can see that he is embarrassed.
I push his arm off and look at him. “I don’t think less of you for having a sex tape, or for spending time with a woman who would secretly tape you. We are all human, and we’ve all made mistakes.”
“As far as I can tell, you haven’t made any mistakes.”
I shake my head. “Well, I’ve made two mistakes just this year. One was in trusting Stephen and the other was letting my beliefs about your profession cloud my opinion of you when I met you. See, we all make mistakes in judgment.”
He looks at me with an expression like I’ve given him the ultimate gift. Then he pulls me close and holds me until it’s time for me to go back to work.
When I get ready to leave, he’s in his t-shirt and lounge pants. He pulls me in again for a kiss. “I won’t let Hayden or this situation hurt you.”
“It will only hurt me if it hurts you.”
He drops his forehead against mine. There’s something ominous about this moment and I’m worried he’s going to do something drastic, although I can’t imagine what it would be.
“When I get back tonight, we can talk more,” I say, giving him a soft kiss.
He accepts my kiss, but again, there’s something about it that concerns me. It’s almost as if he’s saying goodbye.
I grip his t-shirt. “Will you make me dinner?” I ask, needing him to assuage my worry.
“Yes. Now go to work.”
Relieved, I give him another quick kiss and head out to see my last clients of the day. By the time I get to my office, I’ve decided that I’ll tell Oliver tonight how I feel and how I’m willing to stand by him.
