“And how does this fake relationship manifest itself?”
Considering we just had sex, that seems to be the least of our problems. “How would you like it to manifest?”
She thinks for a moment and then shakes her head. “I just don’t think I can do this. Honesty and being true to oneself are important to me. This feels too deceptive.”
I hold my hands up in surrender. “It was just an idea. I know it’s way out there, crazy, but it seemed like a good idea at the moment.”
“It’s a ridiculous idea.”
I stand and take my plate into the kitchen, rinsing it off. “On that note, I think I’ll head back to Theo’s.”
She turns, and we face each other. I’m not usually a man who doesn’t know what to do with a woman, but at this moment, I’m not sure if I should kiss her, shake her hand, or just say goodbye.
“Thank you for the omelet and the lovely evening.” I wince inside because it sounds so lame, considering I was fucking her a half-hour ago.
“Itwasa lovely evening.”
Well, at least she agrees with that. So I turn, show myself out, and return to Theo’s penthouse.
I figure no one has to know about Charlotte and me. I doubt she will tell anyone, so I won’t tell anyone. I just need to go on as usual, except now I’m back to figuring out how to fix my reputation, stop my past from ruining my future, and get on with my life.
