“Yes, Abel, we all remember the fight with Trilden,” Reid said.

“Give me some credit,” Abel said. “That was a big guy. He was messing with Remi all night and I took him down.”

“Hey, speaking of taking things down,” Lay said. “Abel, can I talk to Wren privately?”

“No,” Abel said.

“What for?” Wren asked.

“You don’t want to know,” Remi said.

I took baby Izzy from Remi and walked down the hallway as Lay began to explain his personal grooming routine to Wren.

Izzy was the perfect mixture of Abel and Wren.

Such a little miracle.

And always smiling too.

“You’re just happy, huh?” I asked the baby.

Izzy let out a loud noise and swung her arms.

“Oh, wow, you throw punches like your father,” I said. “That’s a good thing. But I hope you don’t have his attitude.”

I began to gently rock Izzy and to my shock, she started to curl up in my arms and her eyes grew heavy.

Wren appeared at my right side.

“She loves this place,” Wren whispered. “I don’t know what it is. The sound or the temperature or what.”

“It’s in her blood,” I said. “She’s a hockey player.”

“That scares me.”

“As much as Lay does?”

“That man is disgusting,” Wren said with a smile.

“So, you heard what he did?”

“Yeah.”

“You didn’t… see…”

“No,” Wren said. “He tried to show me and I walked away.”

“Smart woman.”

“Am I though? I got pregnant by Abel. Then I married him.”

“You’re half smart then,” I said.

Izzy fully shut her eyes.

She was such a joy to hold.

“She’s peaceful now,” Wren said. “Feel free to stop by around two in the morning. That’s when she acts like she climbed out of the depths of hell.”
