“You said you-”
“Eva, shut up,” I cut her off before she could say something to really irritate me.
“We both love you,” Zoe said. “A lot. But…”
“Stop,” I said. “It was a one-night thing and it’s done and over.”
“But he broke your camera,” Eva said.
“He was mad because I told him my name was Grace.”
“You did the middle name thing again?” Zoe asked. “Why?”
“Because it’s fun,” I said. “That’s why. And so I don’t have some guy trying to look me up on social media or whatever. It keeps all doors locked shut.”
“You mean anything that resembles a commitment,” Eva said.
“Exactly,” I said.
“So, what are you going to do now?” Zoe asked. “You have to show up still, right? I mean, you can’t piss off your father. Well, you can, but he’ll just drive you crazy about it.”
“What about the camera lens?” Eva asked.
“I have others,” I said.
“Screw that,” Eva said, pushing at my shoulder. “You need revenge!”
“This isn’t a horror novel,” I said.
“I’m not saying to bite his inner leg,” Eva said. “Unless you already did that.”
Eva smiled.
I looked away.
“Why are we biting inner legs?” Zoe asked.
“Okay, let me ask you something, Zoe,” Eva said. “What would be sexier and gorier at the same time…”
“Enough with the horny vampire stuff,” I said.
“The goalie for theApple Catsis a horny vampire?” Zoe asked.
“No,” I said. “We’re talking about two different things.”
“First off,” Eva said, “he owes you a new camera lens.”
“The horny vampire?” Zoe asked with a smirk. Then she said, “Eva is right. He broke that lens, he owes you a new one.”
“I can’t call him,” I said. “I can’t contact him. All I can do is see him again at practice or a game.”
“Right, you never get numbers,” Eva said.
“I never had a need to.”
“Okay, so we have time to come up with a plan,” Zoe said. “Make this guy suffer a little. You have the control here, Madison. Your father is the GM of the team. Dangle that carrot over his head…”
“Like he dangled his over your mouth,” Eva said.
