Chapter Forty-Four
MADISON
“Okay, how does this look?” I asked as I stepped out of my bedroom.
“That’s beautiful,” Zoe said. “Far better than the black dress.”
“I like the black dress,” Eva said.
“Horror writer,” Zoe said.
“What?” Eva asked. “That black dress lets her blend in.”
“This is a much nicer dress,” Zoe said. “It’s like a dark peach color. It brings out her skin tone and her hair.”
“I thought you were a rock star?” Eva asked.
“Look at her,” Zoe said. “She looks stunning. Shoulders exposed. Cleavage but not too much. She’s perfection right now. Jaw dropping.”
“Is that what you want?” Eva asked me. “Jaw dropping?”
“I feel like I need to get changed,” I said.
“Please don’t,” Zoe said. “Remember what today is.”
“Believe me, I could never forget what today is,” I said.
“Fine,” Eva said. “I give up. That dress is the winner. Okay?”
“You’re sure?” I asked.
“Positive,” Zoe said. “You look stunning.”
I went back into my bedroom.
I looked at myself in the mirror.
This dress was a good color.
Considering the event, black would have been a little bit…morbid.
I did a little twirl and took a deep breath.
It was time to grab a sense of confidence and just go with it.
Another deep breath and I grabbed my bag off the bed and exited my bedroom.
This time I had Zoe and Eva waiting for me.
Standing just outside my bedroom.
Both of them staring, arms crossed…
“What?” I asked.
“We’re not going to talk about it?” Zoe asked.
“Talk about what?”
