Wow, Madison, way to go there.
“What do you want?” Maverick asked.
“I’m…”
“We need to talk,” he said to me.
“We can’t, Maverick,” I said. “That’s what I need to tell you. Believe me. Not with my father around.”
“Yeah? That’s what this is then?”
“No choice,” I said. “I had no idea who you were.”
“I obviously had no idea who you were,” Maverick said. “I still don’t know who you are.Grace.”
I cringed. “Maverick…”
“Here comes a shot,” Maverick announced.
I gasped and turned.
Abel was a few feet away, moving the puck fast.
Maverick jumped toward me instead of blocking the net.
He bumped into me.
Definitely on purpose.
Hard enough that me and my camera went toppling down to the ice.
I braced the fall with my camera, which shattered the lens.
It was instant rage that went through me.
Abel obviously scored on Maverick, but the look in Maverick’s eyes told me he was the winner in this one. For now.
“Hey, are you okay?” Abel asked as he skated toward me.
“Shit, I’m really sorry about that,” Maverick said. “Here, let me help you up. Let me help you to the locker room. We can take a look at the camera and see if it’s broken. Okay?”
The lens was shattered.
My body wasn’t hurt.
But it was obvious Maverick really wanted to talk alone with me.
