“You’re going tosextwith him,” Zoe said. “You’re not telling him to screw some random woman. You’re kicking us out so you two could get on the phone together…”
“Busted,” I said. “Now go.”
“Really?” Eva asked. “Can I stay and read the texts?”
“No,” Zoe said. “He’ll probably send pictures.”
“So what?” Eva asked.
“Please leave,” I said in a calm voice.
My phone buzzed in my hand.
I glanced down.
What kind of fun are you talking about? I’m sitting in a locker room. The game starts in less than an hour. Are you feeling okay?
I had to backtrack now.
There were too many moving parts.
The first thing I did was chase Zoe and Eva out of my apartment for good.
“Enjoy your phone sex!” Zoe called out in the hallway.
“Don’t get the screen wet!” Eva added.
“Keep a bowl of rice near you in case you do!” Zoe said.
They both laughed.
I wasn’t in a laughing mood now.
I turned and put my back to the door.
I texted Maverick back.
I just meant I didn’t want you to pass up anything you’d normally do when you’re playing road games. I don’t know if you have… other arrangements. You know?
I sent the text and walked across the apartment.
My coffee table had my camera and all my lenses on it.
My laptop was open, but the screen had turned itself off.
I had been researching on how to take perfect wedding pictures.
That’s where my mind needed to be.
Instead, my eyes were glued to my phone, watching the three dots, knowing Maverick was responding.
I don’t know what kind of arrangements you mean, Madison.
I bit my lip.
You know what I mean. When you win or whatever. If you guys go out and have some fun. Strippers. Drinks. If you find someone to hook up with. That’s all good on my end. Just so you know.
I reread the message but it was already sent.
