“Fine.”

I did a happy wiggle when he replaced Cin’s milk but poured me a glass from the brand I loved and placed it next to my crispy chicken tenders and fully loaded fries. He sat across from me, opened his sandwich, and removed the pickles. I snagged them from his plate and popped them into my mouth.

“Yuck.”

“Yum,” I contradicted and shoved a handful of fries into my mouth. “I didn’t realize how hungry I was.”

“I should’ve stopped on the way from the airport. Sorry.”

“It’s okay. We were both dying to see Cinnamon.”

He grunted what could have been from denial or agreement. I chose to believe it was the latter. He acted grumpy about the cat as if he’d adopted her only because of me, but that was all lies.

I finished eating before him, so I went to my bedroom to pack my suitcase. Choosing what to bring was harder than I’d thought. I riffled through my clothes when he walked into the bedroom.

“Sully.”

“Hmm?”

“Are we gonna go out?”

“Why?”

“I’m trying to narrow down what to bring to wear.”

“Honestly, you don’t even have to bring clothes.”

I gave a mock gasp. “Planning to keep me naked in bed?”

“Sure. Just in bed.” He winked, and I couldn’t be any happier.

“I guess I’ll take out the kitty outfit I’d packed, then.”

“Keep those. And the kitty tail butt plug. I have plans for that one.”

In the end, I packed a few shorts to wear around the house, two pairs of jeans with half a dozen tops, and three pairs of shoes, one casual, one pair of heels, and sandals. He carried the suitcase to the car while I gathered my toiletries.

I joined him in the car, bouncing in my seat.

“Excited?” he asked.

“Is it so obvious?”

“Only a little.”

By the time we got to his house, I was a bag of nerves. “Please say something if I’m difficult to live with,” I said, carrying Cinnamon’s carrier. “I’d hate being a bother. I promise I won’t get upset.”

“Kit, you’re bothering me.”

I stopped walking and gaped at him. When he grinned, I chased after him. “Stop being evil. I’m the bait, not the target.”

A meow halted me. Cinnamon didn’t like it one bit. I lowered the carrier to the floor and let her out. She stared at me disapprovingly, then walked off.

“Now you don’t have to be.”

I climbed to my feet and frowned at Sully. “What do you mean?”

“You don’t need to work as bait anymore. You’re with me now. I’ll take care of you. Feel free to spend my money.”
