Liam reminded me of what they expected me to do. It was the same information they kept drilling into my head. My only role was to look pretty and be a good little hooker. They would handle everything else.
I sighed when he finally pulled into the driveway of a house isolated on acres of land. The nearest neighbor we’d passed was half a mile away. No wonder this guy had his affairs all the way out here. No one would be able to see any comings and goings.
At the gate, a disembodied voice asked us to identify ourselves.
“I have a package to deliver from Diamond Escort.”
“Show me your ID.”
We were busted for sure.
“One second.” Liam removed a piece of plastic from his wallet and held it up to the camera mounted on the gate.
Now it made sense why they needed me to get to the rich schmuck. He was paranoid about who he let onto his property.
“Let me see the goods.”
Liam wound down the window of the back seat, and the camera shifted.
“Smile.”
I did exactly that. It was the creepiest thing I’d ever done, being studied by someone using a camera while sticking my head through the window.
“Enter, but only the boy leaves the car.”
The gates opened, and Liam drove slowly along the gravel driveway.
“You okay back there?”
“I’m fine. What do I do now?”
“Go up to the front porch. I’ll hang out here until he’s finished with you.”
“Okay.”
I grabbed the door handle.
“Wait.”
I groaned. “What now?”
“Don’t forget to keep your earrings in. That’s the only way we’ll hear what’s going on inside.”
“Got it. I don’t have a reason to remove them anyway.”
“Go on, then. Good luck. If this works, there will be a hefty commission in it for you.”
I slipped out of the car and smoothed down the dress, although there wasn’t much material to smooth lower than mid-thigh. The dress was exactly my style: slinky, body-hugging, and a blush pink. Sully had picked out the perfect dress for me. For another man.
And I needed to get over it already.
I walked up the steps to the wide porch. I was about to knock when I spotted the note taped to the door inviting me to enter. With my hand on the doorknob, I paused. What was I doing here? I’d tried not to think about it too hard, but what was I about to become an accomplice to tonight?
The knob turned easily, and I pushed the door open. The long hall I stepped into was terrifying. Liam had prepared me as best he could for what to expect, but I still felt like I was walking blindly into this. I glanced back at the waiting car. At least I wouldn’t be here alone, and they could hear every single thing I did to Leo Bernard.
I took back everything I’d said.
Sullivan Matthews was nobody’s prince. At least not mine. He was a bastard.
