“There’s no but.” He braced his elbows on the desk. “All right, hear me out. You want him to see things from your perspective, but are you seeing things from his? He was making a lot of money working for us.”
“He’ll still have access to my money.”
“But that’s not money he’s worked for. Come on, don’t tell me I know your boyfriend better than you. He’s an independent guy. He enjoys working for his own money, and you’re taking that away from him, and all the poor guy did was sleep with you. It’s like a punishment. I’m surprised he didn’t choose to work for you and stop sleeping with you.”
Did Liam have a point? Was I taking away Kit’s independence? But all I wanted was for him to be safe. Being with me would never make him fully safe, though, would it? Like Liam had said, I’d made over a decade of enemies. If I really were concerned about his safety, I would have let him go.
Impossible.
“Other than when he found out what we were really doing, he’s been pretty good at luring men. As much as it pains me to say this, you know we got him because men still abandon reason when they’re thinking with their dicks. He’s the sort of guy men see and immediately think they’d like to dominate.”
I scowled at Liam.
“Don’t look at me like that. You know it’s true. You sleeping with him doesn’t mean the world will stop noticing his sex appeal. It’s a natural part of him.”
“All right, I get it.”
“Does this mean you’re bringing him back on board?”
My phone vibrated, and I took it out of the pocket of my jacket and checked the message.
“Son of a bitch.”
“What is it?”
“It’s the credit card company. Kit just spent over ten thousand dollars in one fucking store.”
The only reason we even had an alert was that a couple of years ago, we got hacked, and someone spent over a hundred thousand dollars before we’d figured out what had happened.
Liam burst out laughing. “Man, I’m so fucking glad I’m not you right now. He’s too much, but watching you deal with him is priceless.”
