“The two women were working together. Maybe Maddie’s friend wants her to boot your ass for some reason. She could also be the one who sent you those texts.”
He’d heard his friend say some stupid things, but this topped the list. “You’re crazy.”
“We already knew that about him. But Spike makes a good point.”Alex’s statement proved his belief that nothing good ever followed the word “but” in a sentence.
“I’m not going to repeat Jasmine’s words, but she once went into great detail about how she wanted to spend time with you.”
Keith didn’t get how Alex could swear like a drunk pirate, but when it came to discussing sex, she acted like a nun at a convent.
“And Maddie said Cassidy wouldn’t leave you alone a few months ago,” Alex added as Junior returned and placed three beers on the table.
Yeah, he remembered the night Alex referred to, but he still thought Spike’s theory was bullshit. “Not buying it. Neither of them would do that to Maddie. They’ve been friends for too long. And other than the two of you and Matt, no one knew I’d be here tonight.”
Unless you were tailing a person, it was damn tricky to set someone up when you didn’t know where they would be in advance.
Spike shrugged as he raised his beer toward his mouth. “Maybe, but something about tonight feels…” He paused. “Manipulated. I’d watch my back if I were you.”
He was going to buy Spike a dictionary for his birthday so the guy could look up the word “coincidence.”
