“Sienna. Here you are.” His dark eyes lit up. “I’ve been looking all over for—” Oakley glanced over my shoulder at Noah, and I was sure my heart fell right out of my ass.

“Well, you found me,” I chirped. “Want to go grab a croissant or some—”

“What is going on here?” Oakley’s eyes no longer seemed light, brown irises instantly darkened.

“Nothing.” I wasn’t even sure whether that was a lie or not since I didn’t even know what the hell was going on here.

Oakley glared in Noah’s direction again, his brows knitted, and jaw clenched. “Isn’t that the guy you were kissing the other night?”

My lips parted to answer when Noah stepped closer, towering over me and extending a hand to Oakley. “Noah Black.”

Oakley merely glanced at Noah’s hand as if it carried some disease, then looked back at me. “What is he doing here, Sienna?”

“It’s not what you think.”

“What am I thinking, exactly?”

“I don’t—”

“From where I’m standing, it looks like you did way more than kissing.”

“What?” I recoiled. “No. That’s not—”

“You’re wearing nothing but a sheet with the guy you kissed standing next to you, yet you expect me to believe that nothing happened?” Anger rolled off him. My pulse raced, and thoughts scattered, unable to find the right thing to say. I’ve seen Oakley like this so many times, his jealousy breaking through the refined façade he carried so proudly. It turned him into someone I hardly recognized. Someone I had feared one too many times.

“Did you sleep with him?” He snapped, and I jolted at his hard words. “Did you fuck him?”

“Okay, that’s enough.” Noah slipped between us, forcing me to take a step back. “I think you should leave.”

Oakley squared his shoulders, his expression hard and eyes ice cold. “Don’t get all up in my face, man. Step the fuck aside.”

Noah placed a finger on Oakley’s chest, inching forward with a threatening stance. “I said, you should leave.”

Oakley didn’t back up, irises hard and nostrils flaring. My heart was about to tear out of my chest as I watched them, holding my breath. Although I had seen Oakley get in a few fights before because of the jealousy he couldn’t control, even I knew he was no match for a man like Noah. If Oakley didn’t back down now, my money was on him getting his ass kicked and legs broken, making sure he never played football again.

“I’m not going anywhere until I know what the fuck you did with my girl.”

“She’s not your girl.”

“The fuck she isn’t.”

I found myself inching closer to Noah, needing the protection of his large frame.

Oakley looked back, angry eyes finding mine. “You’re coming with me so we can talk about this.”

“I don’t want to talk to you,” I said. “Not when you’re like this.”

Oakley narrowed his eyes, reaching out and wrapping his fingers around my arm. “It wasn’t a request, Sienna. Come on.”

“Let go of me.” I jerked my arm from his grip just as Noah grabbed him by the shoulder, slamming his back against the wall.

“She doesn’t want to talk to you, man. Back the fuck off.”

“Fuck you.” Oakley shoved against Noah’s chest only to be countered with Noah pressing an arm against his throat.

“I said. Back. The fuck. Off,” Noah seethed, rage rippling off his squared shoulders as he moved his arm up, pressing harder against Oakley’s throat. “If you so much as breathe in her direction without her consent, I will feed you your balls through a motherfucking straw. Do you understand?”

Oakley pressed his lips together, his eyes reflecting the violence and fury of his thoughts all directed at Noah. A gust of wind ripped through the trees, leaves swooshing up and swirling around us as if it too felt the animosity that vibrated in the air around us.
