Chapter Thirty-Eight

Sienna

“They thinkif they find me, they'll find you?”

Noah stared at me as if he expected me to break at any moment—like I was this fragile doll that would crack if he said a single wrong word. “Not exactly.”

“What do you mean, not exactly?”

He bit his lip and straightened, looking everywhere but at me. “Listen, it's been a long day. You need to get some rest.”

“Noah, what are you not telling me?”

“There's a bathroom through there,” he pointed at a wood-paneled door to the left, “which I think you’d find very much to your liking. And there's some clean clothes in the bedroom closet.”

“Noah,” I urged, stepping forward. “Tell me.”

“Go take a shower or a hot bath, Sienna. Get some rest. We can talk in the morning.”

“You always do that.” I walked up to him, demanding he look at me. “You always tell me bits and pieces, never giving me the whole story. It’s like you think I’m a child and that I should be happy with the puzzle pieces you give me that make absolutely no fucking sense. Like you don’t want me to see the big picture.”

“Maybe I don’t want you to see the big picture.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m trying to protect you from seeing just how damn ugly it really is.”

“Stop trying to protect me!” I stepped up to him. “Don’t you see what you’re doing to me, Noah? Everything you’ve done to protect me ends up hurting me.”

“I don’t. Care,” he gritted out between clenched teeth. “I don’t care if I hurt you, as long as you are safe.”

“But I’m not!” I snapped. “I’m not safe. From the moment we kissed, I was no longer safe. Whether it’s these fucking cartel people finding me or you breaking my heart,” I swallowed, inching back, “I get hurt either way. And honestly, I’d rather them find and torture me than have to live through another day hurting because I love you so much it’s impossible to breathe when I’m not with you.”

Noah’s eyes burned with blue flames, the vein in his neck bulging and pulsing. “I told you this wouldn’t happen again.”

I blinked. “What?”

“This.”

As if desire had suddenly burst through every inhibition and fear that had kept us apart, Noah launched forward, grabbing both my arms and pulling me up against him, pressing his lips against mine, and my eyes closed with the pleasure of it.

He kissed me.

He kissed me as if his life depended on it. As if he needed it to breathe. And I let him. This time there was no way I’d be able to stop him. I wanted it too much. My soul needed it while my bones craved it—to be completely and utterly consumed by not just him but by the storm of emotions that raged inside me.

The wild strokes of his tongue burned against mine, and I tore my arms free from his hold, wrapping them around his shoulders, grabbing his hair at the nape of his neck, demanding he kiss me harder. Deeper. To never let go.

The familiar scent that always enveloped me whenever he was this close filled my soul, his taste giving me hope. Hope that maybe—just maybe—loving him wasn’t the worst mistake I had ever made. How could it be when kissing him felt this perfect?

He grabbed my ass with greedy palms, pressing me tighter against him, our bodies molded together as if we were made to be one. A moan ripped from my throat as he hauled me up, forcing me to wrap my legs around his waist, and carried me across the room. My breath escaped with a rush of air when he pinned my back against the wall, trapping me between his heat and the wooden logs with a thud. His kiss, his scent, his heat, the taste of him on my tongue raptured me to a place where nothing or no one else existed. Just us and this undeniable attraction that would rather explode than allow us to let it wither.

My hips moved in rhythm with his, my body welcoming the friction of his hard length against my sex with each thrust. Every kiss, every touch was rough, turbulent, desperate. We didn’t want to savor. We didn’t want to linger. We wanted to detonate.

Tearing his lips from mine, he set my feet on the floor, untied the belt of my coat and grabbed the hem of my shirt, ripping it in half. And without pause, he yanked the cup of my bra down, latching onto my nipple and sucking the pebbled flesh hard, frenzied, as if he had been starved for a taste his entire life.

There was no control. It was chaos. Mayhem. Absolute savagery that pulsed with our blind impulse to fuck.

“Oh my God, Noah,” I moaned, arching my back, and he circled his arms around my waist, pulling my hips tighter against him while my shoulders remained planted on the wall. He palmed my breast, kneading the soft flesh while I moaned from the sheer ecstasy that spread from the warmth of his mouth around my nipple to my core that desperately yearned for him.
