Chapter One
PART ONE
Sienna
“Silas, get your skank off our dining table.”
Kelly shot a glare my way, her heavy eyeliner smudged like dirt below her eyes, and swung her legs covered with torn stockings onto the table. My brother knew how to pick them. The easy ones. The ones with issues that had them compensating by wanting attention.
Those with daddy issues.
The lost orphans who didn’t fit in anywhere.
And last, the ones with low self-esteem who needed to get fucked on a regular basis to feel like they were actually worth a fuck—pun intended.
Kelly was one of the latter. Last week it was a daddy issue slut who would end up crying whenever they had sex. And what would my dear older brother do? Knock on my door and shove the crying pain in his ass in my face, leaving me to deal with the incessant pity party.
Silas came walking up with two plastic cups full of beer in his hands. “Stop harassing my girl.”
“Then get the dirty ho off our dining table. I’d like to eat breakfast tomorrow morning without thinking how many times she dragged her cunt across the mahogany.”
He narrowed his green eyes at me, blowing a dark strand of hair from his forehead. “You have a filthy mouth for a girl.”
“That’s what happens when I grow up with two brothers. Adapt or die. And I chose to adapt and thrive.”
“For someone who flunked all her classes, I wouldn’t call it thriving.”
My nostrils flared.
“I wonder what Dad is going to say when he finds out his little princess screwed up…againby flunking her first year at Waterford University.”
I smirked and reached out, straightening the collar of his white Polo shirt, pretending like we’re two siblings who actually gave a shit. “First of all, let’s wait until the fat lady sings before we go singing to Daddy about that. Second of all, you’re one to talk after you wrecked your birthday present two months ago against our neighbor’s outside wall, costing Dad a fuckton of money.”
“Well, I don’t have to fill our dead mom’s shoes around here, do I?”
It cut so damn deep. It was like steel against my bones, how Silas could speak about our mom as if he hated her.
I stepped up to him, red-hot fury searing my insides. “First of all, no one can fill Mom’s shoes. Not even the whore our dad plans to marry next weekend. Second of all, fuck you, Silas.” I plucked a cup from his hand, took a sip, and walked off, refusing to spend another second speaking to him.
“Hey, Sienna?”
“What?” I turned to Silas.
“Oakley’s on his way.”
Oh, my fucking God.“Jesus, Silas. Why would you invite him?”
“It’s the party of the year, Sienna. Of course, I’m going to invite my best friend.” He shot me one of those arrogant smirks I promised myself I’d wipe off his face one day before I died.Bucket list shit.
Silas and I hardly ever got along. Not like Spencer and I did. If they weren’t identical twins, I’d refuse to believe Silas and Spencer were related. Spencer was the level-headed one between the three of us, the one who didn’t crave attention or turn to ridiculously large fuckups to get some. He was also the only one who knew me better than I knew myself. Pity he wasn’t home much lately, opting for a university on the other side of the country. Again, level-headed, rather moving away from home than stick around to see Dad and his new girlfriend’s relationship evolve.
“Asshole.” I spun around while taking a sip of beer and cringed. The bitter taste was disgusting and a solid reminder of why I preferred expensive champagne and margaritas.
“Sienna, there you are.”
I looked to the side as Cleo broke through the crowd, my best friend stumbling toward me. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
I placed the beer on one of the tables against the wall, wiping my palm down the skirt of my black dress. “God, I should stop wearing Vera Wang whenever alcohol is involved.”
