Why did she feel lost?
“Congratulations,” he said. And then he got up off the bed and went into the bathroom. She lay there for a long moment, and then stood slowly, making her way back into the living room and collecting her clothes.
She felt rocked. Scraped raw, but she forced a smile on her face.
She had won. In every way she had won.
She had the contract. She wouldn’t have to see Gunnar again.
She would not indulge this pain in her chest telling her she had lost something.
And before she had cut ties, she had finally lived her deepest fantasy. And it had been everything... Everything. And now when she went to bed alone... She would have the real thing to think about. And not just wild fantasies based on fiction.
And of course, she had always known that she and Gunnar could never have more than one night. It was impossible.
But this night had been everything she needed it to be.
She didn’t need any more.
