“I told you I was fine,” she argued even as she swung her feet up and lay back.

“Which is why you have a black eye.” Moving to the control console, he shoved Vujcec away from it and began the scan. When it came to Taly, he trusted no one but himself. She was his.

When the results came back, he glared at Taly. His lips pressed into a firm line, and it took a moment before he could speak. “You said you were fine! You have a fractured cheekbone! Not to mention multiple contusions, including a large one on your hip.” He checked the treatments listed and initiated the process, unable to believe he’d allowed anyone else to be treated first. He should have forced her onto the bed.

“If that’s all after being thrown around the concert hall like a rag doll, then I’ll take it,” she murmured.

“What do you mean ‘being thrown around?’” he demanded.

“She didn’t have time to strap in before the shockwave hit.” Vujcec gave him an accusing look. “I tried to tell you we needed to warn them.”

“Stop it, you two,” Taly chastised. “It’s my fault. I wasn’t strapped in, and I’m sure Ranvir would have informed us if there’d been time. Now, how much longer?” She could tell the treatment was working because her headache was rapidly fading.

“Two more minutes,” Ranvir bit out.

Closing her eyes, she waited.
