Moreno gestures for me to get out of the vehicle.
Is he going to shoot me?
“Do you have a set of handcuffs on you?” he shouts at Jaxson.
I didn’t even bother to lock the car door when I rushed inside.
Moreno yanks the handle of the car open. His gun trained on me. I don’t know how many bullets he has left, but I don’t want to find out.
“Are you going to have me arrested?” I ask.
Is that why he’s insisting on having me handcuffed? Is he going to haul my ass off to jail? Will he call the cops and turn me in for kidnapping Nova and stealing his vehicle?
“No,” Moreno says.
Jaxson is beside him in no time, handing over a set of metal cuffs.
Moreno yanks me out of the car, forcing my hands behind my back as he presses me against the SUV.
I feel the cold metal clasp against my wrists.
“What do you plan on doing?” I’m not sure that I want to know what will happen, but I find the need to ask anyhow.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” He opens the passenger door to his vehicle and shoves me inside.
Moreno grabs the seatbelt and leans across my body, snapping the buckle into place before slamming the door shut.
Ariella steps outside, carrying Nova. She gives me an apologetic look, like she feels guilty for betraying me.
She shouldn’t.
I did this to myself.
Betraying Moreno was a choice I made to save Nova. I’d do it all over again.
It’s time I live with the consequences.
