Gino points at the entrance of the door, and I swear she’s stomping inside.
Maybe it’s all in my head, and I imagine the sassiness that sizzles right off of her.
I flip through the video feeds and glance up when I hear footsteps approach my office.
Moreno steps into my office and shuts the door behind him.
I barely make eye contact with him.
“She’s just a girl. There’s plenty more of them out there,” Moreno says.
I balk at his suggestion.
“She’s carrying my child. I shouldn’t have let her go.” I slam my fist against the wooden desk. Anger boils my blood, running through my veins.
The last thing I need is to appear weak. Letting her leave was a mistake, one that I have to fix.
I fucked up.
Big time.
I drop the tablet on the desk and stand.
“What’s the plan?” Moreno asks. He’s already one step ahead. We’ve worked together closely for so long that he has the uncanny ability to know what I’m thinking. “We break into the DeLuca’s compound and kidnap her?”
When he says it like that, it sounds horrible, but she’s mine, and that baby is mine. I can’t let anything happen to the child she’s carrying.
“Her father poisoned her,” I say and throw my hands into the air. “The way I see it, we’re mounting a rescue mission.”
Moreno cocks a grin. “Any way you want to see it, Boss. Suddenly we’re the good guys.” He laughs under his breath.
Yeah, crazy.
