She deserves to know the name of the man who intends to buy her. I’ve paid for twenty minutes with her, but I fully intend to take her home with me, whatever the cost.

Her eyes are wide, like a doe, and I take the opportunity to sit beside her. I rest a hand on her thigh, and she freezes and holds her breath.

I don’t want to be the monster that I am. She knows my name. She’s terrified of me and for a good reason, but does she realize how awful her father is and what he was willing to do to teach her a lesson?

Now isn’t the time. There are likely cameras and audio surveillance.

I have to tread carefully. This may be a suicide mission, saving her, but I don’t intend to end up dead.

“Why are you doing this?” she stammers.

I frown, confused by her question. With a heavy sigh, I realize she probably has no idea that I’m here to save her.

I’m not the animal keeping women locked up in cages.

I grab her chin and force her to stare into my icy gaze.

We aren’t alone. DeLuca’s men could quickly snatch her from my clutches if they so much as desire to punish me.

To say I’m surprised her father, the head of the DeLuca family, the don, hasn’t stopped me from laying my hands on his daughter is an even more disturbing thought.

What kind of man would not protect his daughter?

His flesh and blood?

“I will own you, Kitten,” I say.

She swallows and tightens her lips, rolling them inward.

Does she have nothing to say to me? Even after she stole my truck?

Her gaze glances past me. She’s probably looking for help, but no one will come and save her.

I’m all she has. I’m her knight, but I’m not here to ride away off into the sunset together. I will take her with me, bring her to my castle, and protect her from her father, even if it means locking her away like Rapunzel.

Her voice comes out as a squeak, soft and unsure of herself. “I’m not one to be owned,” she says.

“You’re mine,” I rasp and plant my lips forcefully on hers, reminding her of that night together when we were two strangers and didn’t know the truth.

Well, she was the one who didn’t know. I plucked her like the delicate flower she is, and now I will crush her.

The daughter of my enemy is mine.
