Jaxson is the one in charge.
Interesting.
I knew Jayden was new to joining the security team. He had worked for me before his involvement with his former military buddies. I should never have trusted him, and here I was again, making the same mistake.
“DeLuca’s still trafficking women. Possibly children.” I have no evidence that he’s trafficking kids, but I know for a fact his daughter was tied up in that mess, and if I can get to Jaxson, pull at his heartstrings, and play with his emotions, then maybe he’ll get me the intel that I need.
Jaxson’s right hand balls into a tight fist at his side. His left runs a hand through his hair. I’ve seen that look before from many men, my men even. He’s conflicted.
“What do you care? Aren’t you mafia thugs all the same?” Jaxson steps closer.
He isn’t afraid of me.
But he should be.
“I’m no saint, but I don’t think women should be forced into sexual servitude. Do you not agree with me?” I ask.
Of course, he agrees with me. He’s one of the good guys. Or at least he pretends to be. He probably has his demons, the same as the rest of us.
No one is truly a saint.
“Well?” I ask, waiting for his answer.
“What do you want, Dante?” Jaxson folds his arms defensively against his chest. He hasn’t stepped any closer, but he also hasn’t turned to go back into the office and slam the door in my face.
I’d consider it a win so far.
“I have it on good authority that Jayden attended one of these soirees. I need the location.”
Jaxson laughs under his breath. “You are insane. Do you know that?”
“I’ve been told.” I shrug. That doesn’t make me want the information any less. “Well? Can you help me or not?”
I’m trying the nice guy approach—reasoning with an intelligent man and full of something I don’t have, ethics.
It seems to work.
“Sergio was the one who ran the last auction, but he’s not up to the task of handling it anymore,” I say.
Sergio is dead.
I have it on good authority that the Eagle Tactical guys took care of his ass. He was a scumbag, forcing women to do countless sexual acts.
I’m a different kind of filth. Sergio and I, we’re not cut from the same cloth.
“Do you have an address?” I ask. I don’t want to appear desperate, but let’s face it, I wouldn’t be coming to these guys if I had the information.
Could my men procure it?
Yes, but it would take time.
Time was something I didn’t have much of, considering Nicole was in trouble.
Why did I think about her?
She is a distraction. And it is becoming a problem.
Men like Jaxson and Jayden tiptoed on the side of the law. I bet they probably expunged a few records and erased a few parking tickets too.
“Seems Jayden has your number. He’ll text you with whatever we find,” Jaxson says.
Good. I try not to seem overly excited.
“Don’t ever come back here,” Jaxson says as he turns for the steps up to the entrance of the building. “Or I’ll make sure to put a bullet in your head before you can so much as knock on the front door.”
