“We’ve got the microphone up and running. I couldn’t finish getting a camera in place,” Halsey says over the phone. “Some young girl walked in and nearly ruined the operation.”
He just left their compound.
“One other thing, Boss. Gino and his men were arguing about your truck. I passed it on my way over.”
“My truck?” I try not to sound too surprised. “Where the hell is it?”
So much for that. I can’t stop the anger that broods out of me, like a lion in a cage ready to spring free.
Halsey pauses for a second before answering my question. “You parked it right near the gate, about two clicks south.”
“Of course, I did,” I mutter. What the hell was Nicole thinking?
Was she trying to get me killed? Did the DeLuca’s think I was scouting their property?
Halsey is lucky he’s not dead.
I hang up the call with the young capo and gesture for Moreno to hurry the hell up. I’m not great with patience or waiting.
Moreno pulls up the audio surveillance. I don’t expect much, but we give it a listen.
“I’m tired of your selfish games and your attitude, Nicole. You are just like your mother,” Gino says. His tone is firm and filled with discontent.
“Are we done?” Nicole asks.
I smile at the sound of her voice.
I shouldn’t. I should be angry with her for stealing from me, but that is a mess to deal with another day.
“Hardly. I was serious about the marriage arrangement. It isn’t a choice, Nicole. You are my daughter, and I will marry you off to the man I deem acceptable.”
“I’m not a prize to be won at the state fair,” Nicole says. “I’m leaving and you can’t stop me.”
Silence fills the void.
I glance at Moreno. “I really wish we had video.”
It’s probably the selfish part of me wanting to see Nicole again. But I can still see her, feel her nestled tight against my cock.
She was tight, virgin tight, with that tiny little hole that I fucked.
God, I want her.
Inwardly, I groan and bolt for my office. I need a few minutes. Silence. A moment to myself.
I still have my phone in my hand, and Moreno installed the program so that I can hear Gino anytime he’s in his office.
I leave it on, waiting to see if Nicole storms back to give him the last word.
She seems the type.
“Shut the door,” Gino says.
I don’t know who he’s speaking with, but the authority in his voice is commanding.
