“Damn right it will be. I’ll be your knight in shining armor,” Jaxson said. “I’ll sweep you off your feet and carry you over the threshold.”
“Yeah, right, before knocking my head into a wall. I’ve seen the movies. No thanks.”
Jaxson leaned down. His lips grazed mine. “How about I think about it?”
“What? Marrying me?”
“No, silly. Forgiving Skylar,” Jaxson said. “I definitely want to marry you.”
“Good, because she’s hosting the baby shower. She’ll be over next Saturday. You can work things out with her.”
A part of me still hated Skylar for what she’d done, but I understood she’d been coerced into helping Ben, or Angelo DeLuca would have sold her as part of the slave auction. Her life depended on it, and while she hadn’t intended to kidnap anyone but me, hoping that I would be able to save the two of us, her plan had imploded.
At least that’s the story she gave me when we sat at the coffee shop to talk.
“Fine, but if she so much as looks at you the wrong way, she’s gone,” Jaxson said.
“Good.” I leaned over and planted my lips on his. “I’d expect nothing less from the man I love.”
