I hadn’t intended to sound quite so unsure and not the least bit confident, but he’d caught me off-guard.

“Apologizing,” his husky voice whispered into my ear, sending a shiver down my spine.

No way.

That wasn’t going to cut it. “Sex isn’t an apology,” I said and glanced at him over my shoulder.

I contemplated smacking him upside the head with my paddle, but I didn’t want to knock him overboard or risk him drowning.

The water was dark and deep.

I couldn’t see the bottom.

Silence filled the void, and Lincoln pointed up ahead at the ramp and nearby rental station. It looked identical to the previous one that I’d just visited. “Pull up along the ramp,” Lincoln said.

Yeah, I’d do that and drop his ass off.

“Sure.” I paddled harder, wanting to get there quickly so I could dump him behind.

Lincoln jumped off, his feet getting wet. Not that it mattered. He was still pretty soaked from his earlier swim.

I waited by the entrance as he headed up the platform. The minute his feet were on solid ground, and he faced away from me to grab the gear, I paddled out.

It was a good two minutes before he turned around and noticed. “Harper!”

Snickering, I waved and gave him a salute before paddling downstream.
