Chapter Twelve

Lincoln

I drove Harper back to the studio to pick up her car.

Surprisingly, the studio hadn’t asked us to keep watch overnight. The stars trailers were locked up along with the film equipment.

I shut off the engine and climbed out, intending to walk her to her car. I wasn’t going to leave her, and I needed to make sure she got back to the motel without any trouble.

After all, I was still her bodyguard while she was out of her motel room.

“You don’t have to walk me to my car. Isn’t that kind of cliché?” Harper asked.

“It’s something a gentleman should always do,” I said. I walked alongside her, a couple of short strides to her rental car.

The tension between us had mounted since my confession that she’d managed to turn me on.

She didn’t appear disgusted by my remark, and while I’d wanted to hold my tongue, the truth of it was that she needed to hear it.

Harper had gotten the thought stuck inside her head that I wasn’t interested in her or wasn’t available, neither of which was true.

Approaching her car I backed her against the door, my hands on her hips. My lips teased her neck. Drinking her in, kissing her softly and slowly, wanting her to know that I desired every inch of her.

Her hands slid into my back pants pockets, pulling me closer. “Come inside with me.”

“We’re not teenagers anymore,” I said with a hearty laugh.

She had a small rental car. There was no way it would be comfortable having sex in there, not to mention the fact I was supposed to keep my hands to myself.

I failed miserably.

“I meant my movie trailer. I have the keys. It’s just you and me here.” Harper rocked her hips against mine. “I like you, Lincoln. I can’t say that about too many guys I’ve known.” She leaned in and planted a swift kiss to my lips. “Please don’t disappoint me.”

How could I say no to her? I wanted her.

She wanted me.

Why did things have to be so damned complicated?

I threaded my fingers into hers. “Lead the way,” I whispered.
