“No. There’s no sense in you coming into work early. I’ll run the background check this morning. When you get into the office, we’ll see what we can have you work on.”
She sipped her coffee, holding the mug to her lips as she took a long, slow gulp. “I don’t mind coming in early.”
“That’s not a good idea.” The two of us alone together, at the office, I had wild thoughts that involved bending her over my desk, lifting her skirt, and having my way with her. Down boy. I needed to cool it before she witnessed my arousal.
Her brow furrowed and her bottom lip jutted out. “Well, maybe it’s not up to you.” She put her coffee mug down hard and splashed remnants of what remained in her cup.
She got my attention. “Excuse me?” I stepped closer and stared down into those intense green eyes, an olive hue that sucked me in every time.
“I work for Eagle Tactical, not just you,” she said. Her lips firm and her jaw tight.
Desire made me want to lean down, wrap an arm around her waist and pull her tight against my skin. I imagined lifting her jaw with my thumb, guiding her lips to mine. We were just inches apart. Could she feel the heat radiate off my body and onto hers?
I ran a hand along the back of my neck and took a step back to recover from the fantasy. It couldn’t happen. It shouldn’t happen. She was my employee, and while I had feelings for her, we’d made a commitment that we wouldn’t act on those desires. I needed to respect that. I could use a cold shower.
“Did I do something to piss you off?” Ariella asked.
“Yes.”
