"Mark has been calling and texting non-stop."
I'm not surprised, considering how she left and his behavior. He's probably begging Hannah to come home, promising he'll never hurt her again.
Madisyn pulls out a cell phone from her pocket. "It's Hannah's. She asked me to hold on to it. She was worried she'd do something stupid."
"It's still on?" I snatch the phone from Madisyn's grasp and head out into the hallway, removing the sim card.
How could she not have thought to turn it off? He could be tracking her!
"We’ve got company," Mikhail's gruff voice carries through the hallway.
I close the pocket door of the study, keeping them out of whatever drama is about to ensue. "Do we know who it is?"
"I'd guess Hannah's ex. Nikita mentioned that Hannah came by unexpectedly. The asshole is probably looking for his kid."
"Bay isn't his kid." I won't elaborate.
I march up to the window and glance out past the open curtains. It's difficult to see much in the dark, but there's a vehicle with headlights shining straight at us on the opposite side of the gate.
"Who is watching the gate?" I ask, wanting to know who is posted tonight at the entrance, watching the compound.
"Anton."
I exhale a heavy breath and pinch the bridge of my nose.
"Yeah, my thoughts exactly," Mikhail says. "If I had realized Madisyn brought drama home, I'd have given Anton back up at the entrance."
"You're worried about Mark getting through the front gate?" I never expected that Mikhail would have grievances against Anton. He's a loyal but young soldier. He doesn't have much world experience, especially in terms of bloodshed.
I'm not suggesting Anton slaughter Mark, although it would save me from tomorrow's drama.
"I'm worried about having to replace the gate. He sounds feeble-minded and may drive through the front entrance, not caring that the entry is shut. How the hell did he even manage to track them down?"
"Hannah's phone was turned on. I removed the sim card just a moment ago."
Mikhail isn't one to back down from a fight.
Neither am I.
