Luka growls and leans in, his body trapping me against the cold metal of the car. "That's not fair. I didn't know about her until a few minutes ago."

He's close enough that I can feel his breath and shiver from his proximity.

"I deserve the chance to know Bay," he says.

I gently rest my hand on his chest and push him back, needing space between us. "We'll talk another day."

"When?"

I hadn't given it much thought.

"Do you work tomorrow?" he asks.

"Yes. But I have Monday off."

"Swing by Monday afternoon. Text me before you get here, and I'll make sure that I'm free and we can talk." He holds out his hand. "Your phone?"

I dig my cell phone out of my pocket and grimace at the half dozen missed calls and fourteen unread messages Mark left. He's never been exceptionally clingy, but my stomach roils.

"Someone is popular," he says, noticing the notifications on my screen.

"Yeah." I don't want to talk about it. Hell, I don't want to go home and deal with Mark, but I can't shove my head into the sand.

I hand Luka my phone, and he inputs his cell phone number. "Text me when you're on your way."

"Will do. It'll be after lunch, around one o'clock," I say.

"That's fine." He hands me my phone and leans in, his breath mixing with mine.

I inhale a sharp breath, and he grazes my cheek with his lips. "Stay safe," he whispers, his lips moving to my ear. "And if that boyfriend of yours lays a finger on you, I'll kill him."
