The last picture she’d seen was of two massage tables in the master bedroom overlooking the wonderful view. That caption read: Spa treatments.

“What were y’all arguing about?” Kalilah’s questions pulled her out of her thoughts.

“What?”

Kalilah and Natalia studied her. “He said he wasn’t going to argue with you.”

“You’re reading my text messages?” Cayla asked while reaching for her phone.

Both women moved out of her reach.

“Spill it,” Natalia commanded siding with Kalilah. “One minute he’s trying to invite you to eat and the next set of messages he’s refusing to argue with you. We need to know the in between before we can offer an opinion.

Kalilah pointed at Natalia. “What she said.”

Resigned. Cayla told them everything, and they sighed. They wore mirroring expressions of pity.

“How do we have the same DNA?” Kalilah’s tone was incredulous as she looked between Cayla and Natalia.

“What do you mean?” Cayla asked offended.

Kalilah shook her head. “If I didn’t know you were smart, I would question your intelligence.”

“What Kalilah is trying to say is you sound spoiled,” Natalia lectured.

Cayla’s eyebrows ran towards her hairline. “Spoiled? He’s the one cuddled up with twins.”

Natalia and Kalilah sighed in unison. “Girl, he asked you to be his Valentine’s Day date. You turn him down and show up to his restaurant with another guy.”

“He still comped your meal and gave you extra dessert,” Natalia added. “Not to mention the hot almost-sex you had in his office.”

Kalilah picked up the ball. “He sent you a ridiculously expensive bouquet of roses. Handpicked and delivered by the owner of the flower shop.”

“Stopped by your house the same damn day and gave you orgasms…” Natalia volleyed.

“But he left!” Cayla added.

“SO!” they said in unison.

“Did you request for him to stay?” Natalia queried.

“No. I asked him what about him, and he said it wasn’t about him.”

Natalia and Kalilah groaned in irritation. “He was showing you he could be a selfless lover. You know, only worried about your pleasure,” Natalia explained, almost bored with the conversation.

“That’s why we argued though; everything is centered on sex.”

“SO, HAVE SEX!” Kalilah said it loud enough for other patrons to look at her. In true Kalilah fashion, she pressed on without an ounce of embarrassment. “Cayla, have you looked at the pictures? I mean really looked at them?”

“Yes,” Cayla breathed annoyed.

“And you didn’t notice a trend?” Natalia asked as if she had just joined Kalilah in questioning Cayla’s intelligence.

“I guess not. What’s the trend?”

“You we’re supposed to be there!” they exclaimed almost in unison.

“Champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a place setting for two,” Kalilah pointed out.
