Chapter 18
Maverick
Widow stands leaned against the wall when I step out of Tanner’s room. His eyebrows shoot up as he steps up beside me.
“You know what you're doing?” He asks in a low voice.
Not a fucking clue.
I glance at him but avoid the question. “What’s going on?”
“It’s Viper. He sent a prospect.”
“He’s here? Alone?” I pause at the bottom of the stairs.
Widow shrugs. “Kid’s got balls.”
I barge through the door and see Preach, Romeo, Dom and Boston, standing with a kid who doesn’t even look sixteen.
“You the prospect?” I ask as I light a cigarette.
“Yeah. Viper sent me.”
This kid is cocky.
I chuckle. “Viper sent you, all by yourself, into the turf of a rival MC.” I shake my head and round the table to take my throne. “That tells me a lot about what kind of brotherhood he’s got going on over there.”
“Viper wants a meeting. He would hate to have to pay your sweet sister another visit.” The kids' eyes veer over to Dom.
Dom grits his teeth as he tries to charge him, but Boston holds him back.
“Dom,” I warn.
I lean back in my chair. “You got guts boy. I actually admire your presentation of loyalty. Too bad it’s with a shit club that doesn't give a damn about you.” I take a drag. “You tell your president I’ll agree to a meeting. On my turf, under my conditions. He can meet me at Lace. Monday night at 9:00.”
The kid nods. “I’ll let him know.”
I motion for Preach to open the doors and escort him out. I look over to my brothers. “Here’s our chance to show Viper he fucked with the wrong club.”
Widow grins and slaps his hands together. Dom howls and grabs a bottle of whiskey.
“What do you have in mind?” Dom asks with a grin.
I smile. “Payback’s a bitch.”
It's the next day. We’ve been busy getting ready for our meeting with Viper. I plan to show him I damn sure ain’t just gonna sit back and take whatever bullshit he’s dishing. I’m exhausted. Even though I’m showered and currently in my bed, I can’t sleep.
Zeke: Unlock your door.
Vix: It’s already unlocked.
Zeke: That better be a joke.
I grit my teeth. I know I have told her more than once to lock her door at night. Drunk brothers are all over this place, any one of them could stumble in on her. Then I’d have to kill him. Tossing back the covers, I stand up and grab a pair of jeans from my dresser. Pulling them on, I crack open my door. The hallway is empty, so I slip across to Tanner’s room.
Opening the door, I slide into the darkness and tread across the carpet to her bed.
“Let me guess, I’m in trouble.” Tanner's voice flows through the dark.
