He raised his eyebrow at her playfully.

Cate stared straight through the windshield.

“Lucifer…”

“Engaging in some sorcery this evening, my dear witch?” His lips perked up in amusement. If there was anything Lucifer loved more than his trysts, it was information. Gossip. Secrets, in which he could lord over you, to get you to do whatever it is he wanted you to do.

“None of your business,” Cate brushed him off.

“Mhmm. For what it is worth, it was rather nice to see you again, Cate. Do take care. Mortals are rather delicate.”

Cate gripped the steering wheel and cast him a glare. She knew what he was waiting for.

“Thank you,” she said with an abundance of overcompensating confidence, enunciating the words vividly. The disdain in her voice was not well hidden.

Lucifer flashed a perfect mega-watt smile and nodded in return.

“You are so very welcome.” His words were saccharine as he gave a good tap on her door handle. “Until we meet again, under better circumstances, of course,” he said with perfect inflection.

Hades shut the doors, and Cate didn’t even wait to take off, leaving the angel and his shifter in the dust.

She sighed as she focused ahead on the road.

It’s going to be a long night.
