“And what about Alex?”
“What about Alex? You snuck in, knowing he was here. I assume you had a plan for that,” she snaps, her fire making my cock begin to swell again.
She enthrals me when she’s quiet, watching what’s going on around her and gets lost in her own head. But when she lets that fire burn, I quickly find myself falling deeper under her spell.
My lips part, but I quickly find that I have no words.
“Go walk out there and spend the night hanging out with us, if you want,” she suggests. “Rhea’s going to bed soon. We could—”
“Don’t,” I growl. Really, I have no idea what she’s about to suggest, but the images that pop into my head aren’t ones we need to discuss.
I might not have put a stop to what’s been growing between the two of them, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to encourage it in any way.
“Just… don’t.”
A smile curls at her lips as she studies me.
“Jealousy looks good on you, Nikolas. Who knew you were capable of such feelings.”
My teeth grind and her smile widens.
Damn her for knowing exactly what buttons to press to get a reaction out of me.
“What do you expect, when the girl who should be mine is out there playing games with not only my twin brother but also our enemy?”
“I’m not playing games with— No,” she interrupts herself. “I’m not getting into this with you now. I don’t owe you an explanation for any of it. Especially when you refuse to talk to me. Just leave. We’re done here.”
“Fine. But I won’t be far away. Don’t do anything stupid.”
Her nostrils flare at my warning, but she refuses to speak the words that are right on the tip of her tongue.
Instead, she just backs farther into the corner, giving me easy access out.
“I’ll see you soon, Callista. Don’t do anything that’s going to need to be punished. Or do. Whatever.”
I slip out of the room while she stands there, silently fuming, hoping that I’m not about to walk headfirst into my brother.
I wouldn’t put it past the poor, lovesick sap to be at the end of the hall, waiting, worrying that something’s wrong with Calli.
Thankfully, he’s not, and I can hear his laugh coming from the living room where they were all hanging out when I first let myself in the back of the house.
Pulling open Damien’s office door, I slip into the dark room, leaving it ajar so I can watch her when she finally emerges.
I don’t have to wait very long before the door just a little down the hall opens and her soft steps pass me.
Her heavy sigh makes me smile.
Following her, I come to a stop on the other side of the wall to hear Alex’s reaction, because after what we just did, there’s no way she’s walking back in there looking as composed as she did walking out.
“Calli, what’s wrong?” Rhea asks, her soft voice full of genuine concern.
“Calli?” Alex’s deep voice hits me in the chest.
“I’m okay,” she says, her voice light as if she’s trying to play it off.
“You’ve been gone ages, and you look—”
“I think I had a reaction to something I ate,” she explains, making me shake my head. Although, I can’t deny the pride that swells within me.
