“I’d never be able to honestly say that.”

For some reason, that fills me with pride instead of hitting like an insult. It’s a good start to tonight, my chance to stand out.

VALERIE

Instead of stopping in the main house or giving me a tour, we head right to the five-star kitchen. I gape at it. From the outside, the cabin seemed homey and approachable, but inside its mansion quality.

“Wow.” I breathe.

“I’ll take that as a good sign,” He says.

“This is beautiful. Is this where you live?”

“Nope. I own it but don’t use it often. The woods make it hard to have any kind of long-term protection. Easy hiding.”

“As you proved a few minutes ago,” I tease.

He grabs two plates covered with silver domes. “Don’t give me any credit. I had this made and delivered for us.”

“Of course you did.”

“But absolutely give me credit for the rest.”

I’m about to ask what he means when he leads me out to the backyard. There’s a lagoon-style pool, one of the expensive ones that looks like a pond, but of course, this one has a waterfall, lush plants, and a deck instead of sand. There is a gazebo covered with some little fairy lights, a bed that barely fits under the cover, and more pillows than should ever exist in one place.

Turning slightly, I see a giant sheet, or three, it has to be three king-sized sheets to be that large. And there’s some kind of logo on it. Hunter offers me his arm and I slip mine through his.

We settle into the gazebo and he picks up a remote and starts a movie on the screen. Yeah, movie and dinner: simple. I want to be frustrated that he can’t do anything the normal way, but this is amazing, like a dream. And I can’t quite make myself pick at him for trying.

When he opens the lids on the food, it gets better. Of course, it’s lobster and filet with asparagus and roasted potatoes smothered in cheese. I moan and turn to Hunter. “This is amazing.”

We eat our food, but I see him eying my lobster. I stick my fork in it and offer it to him. He looks at my fork, takes a moment, then wraps his lips around the food. I make a pleased sound and kiss his cheek.

“Look at you being cute.”

He huffs, but then offers me some of his steak. I take it happily and lean against his shoulder. He strokes down the back of my neck. “This is my favorite movie when I want to clear my head or feel overwhelmed.”

“Indiana Jones, really?”

“Why do you think I wanted to be a professor?” He chuckles. “Indiana Jones made it look like the best possible career.”

I snuggle closer to him. He rubs my side, heat sinking into my skin until I’m not focused on Harrison Ford; the sex icon. I look up at Hunter, totally wrapped up in the movie, even mouthing the words. A smile spreads over my face and I kiss his neck.

“Are you watching?”

I giggle and nod. “Yes. I am.”

We watch the movie, cuddling and stroking each other until the need pulsing between my legs demands satisfaction. But shouldn’t I tell my pussy no? Like Ididn’twith Lief? Still, seeing Hunter being a real man for a second, just enjoying his favorite movie is so attractive to me and so different from what I’m used to that it undoes my restraint.

“Hunter,” I whisper.

He’s too focused on the screen. I smile and settle in for the rest of the movie. Of course, Indiana Jones saves the day with plenty of sass. I turn his chin to face me and see a hunger in his eyes. “I’ve always loved sass.”

“I see why. No wonder you like sparring with me.”

“So, a date,” He murmurs, looking around. “Did I do decently?”

“Don’t tell me this is your first one.”
