“Charlotte accepted your offer,” I said from the doorway of Emery’s office several hours after we’d had sex on top of his desk.

Since he had been designing all day, I knew he hadn’t seen her email come in.

He quickly looked across his shoulder. “She already returned the paperwork?”

I nodded, laughing. “You realize I’m acting as your assistant right now, don’t you?” Instead of letting him respond, I said, “Yes, I have everything signed and notarized.”

“She didn’t try to negotiate?”

“No.” I felt my brows rose as I read his expression. “You’re disappointed?”

“I wouldn’t have settled for the first offer and neither would you.”

We had discussed her salary history during the interview, so he knew we had offered double what she was making at her previous job.

“This is more than she’s ever earned,” I reminded him.

“She could have gotten another ten percent.”

I smiled. “Maybe she’ll ask for it after three months. There’s nothing in the contract that stops her from doing that.”

He was taping his foot on the floor, his gaze growing more intense every time his toe touched down. “I’ve been thinking a lot about having Charlotte in our home.”

My back went straight, my arm wrapping around my waist. “And?”

“I think she’s going to be a good fit.”

He was so confident in his answer and that got a smile out of me.

I’d done so well when I’d chosen her.
